Even if you are an experienced social media marketer, you may find yourself at a dead end when there is a lack of ideas on promoting a certain product or service.

Even the busiest businessmen find the time to post the occasional Facebook status, tweet, or link to an article simply because that proven strategy pays off.

Social media is changing the way people interact with each other and is creating many opportunities for dynamic online promotion.

You can benefit from these behavioral changes and effectively promote yourself or your business.

However, if you want your social media campaign to become and remain effective, you will have to deal with situations when you don’t feel inspired enough to write another post.

There is always something more to give; you have to find the inspiration and something to write whether you feel like it or not.

The following tricks will help you focus on your goals and stay motivated to further your social media campaign.

Discover the joy in social media writing

Social media writing shouldn’t make you miserable. If this task is a burden for you, maybe you should reconsider your career choice.

You don’t have to force yourself to cover topics you don’t like, but you have to find the joy and the real reason why you decided to focus on this profession.

Even though social media campaigns are your obligation, you can make this activity more motivating and enjoyable if you invite your followers to comment and join the discussion.

You will be surprised how fun it can be to interact with your followers, listen to what they say, and learn from their feedback.

Read motivational books

If you cannot stay motivated, the answer to your problem is obvious: read motivational books.

You can choose a book closely associated with social media, but you can also turn to motivational stories of famous people you can relate to.

Listen to Stephen King: Close the door!

When it comes to writing, everyone has a lot to learn from Stephen King.

He recommends writers create their first draft with the door closed (which means that they need to focus solely on their own opinions).

And then revise the piece with the door open (meaning you should imagine what your readers would have to say when they read what you have to say).

Interact with your base of followers

Why You Need to Buy Social Media Engagements

Inviting your social media followers to comment on your activity, products, or services will gain valuable feedback that will only motivate you to improve.

Don’t be bitter about the negative comments, and expect them in a large number.

People on social media love bullying, but you can learn from every single comment associated with your campaign, whether positive or negative.

Write in a dialogue mode

Do you know which social media posts get the most attention?

The ones that don’t sound like snappy monologues, and the readers can almost hear the writers’ voices through them.

You can motivate yourself to develop this writing style by finding inspiration in smart dialogues from books, movies, or TV shows.

Writing in a conversational style takes training and practice, but the increased feedback you will get should certainly keep you motivated to work on your skills.

Can’t think of anything witty to write? Listen to inspiring music!

Listening to music while writing helps many professional writers stay focused and inspired, so you should try to implement this simple trick and see if it works for you.

If you get distracted by the sounds while writing, you can adjust the method to your preferences: listen to music you love before you write and keep your mind as blank as possible.

Here’s a good article on how to free your mind with a YouTube playlist.

Find inspiration in quotations

I would be surprised if you didn’t know this, but people on social media love quotations. They love reading and sharing quotations because they make them look smart and deep.

You can use this inclination of your social media followers and find memorable, insightful, and witty quotations associated with your niche.

Share them on your page, and you will soon feel the benefits of shares and likes (more social media users will be brought to your profile).

Bonus: Ask ChatGPT

A smartphone with the ChatGPT app open lies on a patterned surface next to a pair of glasses, suggesting a work or study scenario.

Finally, prompt ChatGPT for some social media content ideas if you still feel uninspired. It could take a few follow-up prompts until you come across an excellent idea, but it always works!

Conclusion

The most important thing for social media writers is to enjoy what you do. Some marketers approach this task as something they must do, but that is not the right way to stay motivated.

Creating diverse content takes a lot of time and energy, but it is critical for setting up an effective digital business card for your brand.

You need to make yourself comfortable in the social media community and find a way to enjoy the interaction with your readers.

The post Elon Musk’s rebranded Twitter, X, sees a major drop in value appeared first on KnowTechie.

When Elon Musk took over Twitter and rebranded it as X, many were curious about the future of this social media giant.

However, the latest news indicates that X’s value has taken a substantial hit since the takeover. The Guardian reported that Twitter’s value is down by two-thirds since Musk’s takeover.

Bloomberg provided another interesting piece of information, revealing that employee-restricted stock units were awarded at $45 a share, which indicates a significant devaluation.

Moreover, Fortune confirmed that Fidelity cut the valuation of its stake in X, reflecting a 72% markdown since Musk bought the former Twitter.

The New York Times reported that Musk estimates the company to be worth $19 billion, a 55% drop from its initial value.

It’s interesting to note that Time pointed out that Musk’s decision to rename Twitter to X might have wiped billions in brand value. Forbes also reported that X has fewer advertisers a year after Musk’s takeover.

Taking all these into consideration, it’s clear that X’s journey under Musk’s leadership has been a bumpy one. The drastic drop in value is a stark reminder that even billionaires like Elon Musk can take it on the chin every once in a while.

The post Threads app makes its way to European users appeared first on KnowTechie.

Meta’s Threads app has stepped onto European soil, taking the social media tussle between up-and-coming social networks and Elon Musk’s X to new territory.

The Threads app, envisioned as a strong contender to Twitter (now X), now graces over 100 countries with its presence, following the nod from the European Commission.

The EU launch aligns with Meta’s global aspirations, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg eyes the billion-user mark despite a dip in user engagement after a pretty strong start.

The Threads app is now available in Europe

The plot thickens when we look at the regulatory chessboard.

The European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) has reshaped the game, pushing Meta to decouple the Threads app from mandatory Instagram linkage—a strategic move that also signals Meta’s adaptation to the EU’s fair competition crusade.

The Guardian highlights the story behind the scenes, noting the initial delay and Meta’s compliance dance with the DMA.

“People who use Threads without a profile can browse content on Threads, search for accounts, share content via link copying or platform sharing, and report Threads content, but can’t create a post or interact with content,” Meta wrote in a blog post.

Everyone’s on the edge of their seats, wondering if Threads can swipe the spotlight from Twitter, which hasn’t been doing so well since Musk took the helm.

The Threads app made quite the entrance in July 2022, with an impressive two million users signing up in just a few hours post-launch, according to The Tech Report.

By the end of its first week, this number skyrocketed to 100 million. In comparison, it took Instagram over two years to hit that mark. Fast forward to the second week, and Threads has amassed over 150 million users.

At its peak, Threads had around 49 million daily active users, but this number took a nosedive, dropping by more than 70% to just 13 million in a matter of weeks, as reported by Similarweb.

Looking to the future, projections suggest potential growth, with some sources anticipating that Threads could rake in billions and reach hundreds of millions of daily users.

However, sustaining this growth will hinge on whether Threads can keep its user base hooked with new and engaging features.

Meta has had its fair share of lawsuits. It got hit in 2012 for tracking logged-out users. In 2015, Chia Hong filed for gender discrimination (via CNN). In 2020, the IRS pursued tax evasion.

These are only a few highlights — if you can even call them that, of Meta’s ongoing legal troubles. So, what now?

Let’s look at Meta’s current trouble in paradise that might cost them $600 million (via Reuters) from the voracious AMI publishing association.

Yet another Meta data privacy matter

laptop with privacy screen on a wooden desk to illustrate meta's issues with data privacy
Image: Unsplash

Meta is no stranger to unethical data use across its social media properties, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Now, 83 Spanish media outlets are trying to reopen the wound. Why did Spain’s most prominent newspapers suddenly collaborate? Because Meta has blatantly ignored EU data legislation since 2018.

AMI wants Meta to stop pulling so much data from its platforms

The dystopian-level personalized ads are evidence of Meta’s marketing monopoly. Spanish media companies are suing to give everyone else a chance at the limelight. But it’s about more than money and ad real estate.

Firstly, Meta creates an impossible advertising landscape. Secondly, it’s not compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation.

The consortium knows this because it sees ads using personal data without asking for consent.

How can newspapers advertise ethically when there is unethical competition swarming every webpage? It’s hard to get away with that nowadays, even as the world’s leading adtech behemoth.

Too many stopgaps like this legal kerfuffle will prevent Meta from spending money and time on more worthwhile ventures, like developing foundational models for the world’s new favorite thing — artificial intelligence.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of Meta or not. They are massive contributors to tech innovation that lawsuits do encroach upon.

Why AMI might lose

Legal Transcript in court room typing

History hasn’t been the kindest to older media formats in the courtroom. Tech moguls tend to have the upper hand, with more money and lawyers to spare fighting for their interests.

It’s the ideal time to do so, too, as copyright law and navigating online privacies are still relatively new legal territories.

Meta also had a startlingly powerful quarter, especially with its recent addition of Threads. Revenue for Q4 hit $34.15 billion, a 23% year-over-year increase.

A measly $600 million court case feels almost laughable, but it doesn’t make the issue less essential to bring to legal battlegrounds.

Why AMI might win

Spain has set a precedent despite the circumstances. Its media outlets targeted Alphabet in 2014, which shut down Google News in the country.

Newspapers didn’t want their content republished in full or partially without compensation. Seems fair.

Alphabet wasn’t willing to pay a collective licensing fee to make it happen, so they were out of the picture for a long time.

Google News returned to Spain in 2022, only after a few legal revisions. At least news publishers can talk directly to Google now to outline payment terms.

What is the biggest fear Meta should have? Just about any country in the EU could issue this same lawsuit because the GDPR is a blanket over all members.

Who’s to say Meta won’t hear from any other nations soon? The court fees and settlement costs might start to add up to a number it can’t ignore.

Meta needs to pay attention

Whether you’re the average social media user or a tech giant, everyone must start taking legislation like the GDPR seriously.

Court cases like this are necessary touchpoints for critical discussions in digital safety and ethical advertising. Who do you think will come out on top?

No matter who does, everyone has something to learn from AMI.

The post Teens are tuned in to TikTok and YouTube ‘almost constantly’ appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Recent findings from the Pew Research Center reveal that a significant portion of teens are plugged into sites like YouTube and TikTok at an almost unyielding pace.

The survey, which gathered insights from 1,453 teens across the U.S., reveals that despite alarm bells ringing over potential risks to mental health, the allure of the digital world remains unshaken.

Over 15% of teens are on YouTube or TikTok “almost constantly,” according to the Pew report. But it’s not just about cat videos and dance challenges; these platforms are the new town squares for Gen Z.

It’s where news breaks, where trends are born, and where movements gain momentum. Other interesting findings include:

  • Nearly 50% of teens are surfing the web “almost constantly,” says the Pew Research Center.
  • YouTube’s the daily digital hangout for 70% of teens, with 16% practically living on it.
  • TikTok’s not far behind, boasting daily visits from 58% of teens, and 17% can’t seem to log off.
  • Snapchat and Instagram split the teen vote, with about half checking in daily.
  • Facebook’s losing the teen race, with only 19% logging in daily.

Yet, there’s a flip side to this coin.

A recent advisory from the Surgeon General has sounded the alarm on the mental health impact of such intensive screen time. But at the same time, it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure that out.

And it’s not just empty talk; studies cited by sources like the American Psychological Association link heavy social media use to a litany of teen troubles, from anxiety to sleep disruption.

But let’s not paint the digital world with just one brush.

For many teens, social media is a lifeline, a place of belonging. It’s where the shy kid in class becomes a poet on Tumblr, where a young activist finds their voice, and where countless others find communities and causes that resonate.

So, as guardians of the next generation’s well-being, what’s the game plan?

Enter tech companies, parents, and policymakers. They’re being called to the table to carve out a space that’s as nurturing as it is engaging.

From YouTube’s efforts to curb harmful content to the call for parents to monitor and mentor their digital natives, the wheels are in motion.

Let’s not forget that this story isn’t just about screen time; it’s about our time and how we guide our digital denizens through this brave new world. For now, the scroll continues, but the story of social media and mental health is far from finished.

Alex Jones returns to X after user poll overrules previous ban https://knowtechie.com/alex-jones-back-on-twitter/ https://knowtechie.com/alex-jones-back-on-twitter/#respond Mon, 11 Dec 2023 22:47:45 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=342904 His return signifies a controversial and noteworthy shift in X's approach toward content management.

The post Alex Jones returns to X after user poll overrules previous ban appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Five years ago, Alex Jones, notorious conspiracy theorist, was expelled from Twitter by the platform’s safety team.

Today, however, he finds himself back on the same forum, now named X. The key player behind this surprising event is none other than Elon Musk.

Last weekend, Musk took to X and threw a poll at the masses: should Jones get his golden ticket back to the platform? The crowd went wild, and nearly two million folks cast their votes.

Lo and behold, a whopping 70 percent were all for Jones’s comeback.

Musk had previously insisted that Jones, known for spreading conspiracy theories about Sandy Hook, had no place on X.

Nevertheless, ahead of an interview with Jones hosted by Tucker Carlson and streamed on X, Musk appeared to change his stance.

“The platform aspires to be an international meeting place, and as such, permanent bans should be very few,” Musk announced, justifying his decision to hold the poll.

When the results came out on Saturday, Musk took to X and said, “The people have spoken, and so it shall be.”

Alex Jones is back

Jones is known for disseminating a myriad of conspiracy theories through his well-known show, InfoWars. He marked his return to the platform by streaming a lengthy, nearly three-hour interview.

Throughout the conversation, Musk joined in alongside a range of other right-wing figures. These included influencer and alleged rapist Andrew Tate and GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

Why was Jones banned in the first place?

In September 2018, Twitter’s safety team announced a ban on Jones amid a broader effort to deplatform the right-wing media figure.

Citing an instance of “abusive behavior,” Twitter pointed to an altercation between Jones and CNN reporter Oliver Darcy during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing that Jones broadcasted live on Twitter.

This ban came in response to weeks of increasing public calls to suspend Jones’s account. Around the same time, Jones faced similar bans from a host of other platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, Vimeo, and LinkedIn.

With his return to the very platform that once expelled him, Jones once again has a chance to share his perspectives with millions of users daily.

Although his past actions have not been forgotten, his return signifies a controversial and noteworthy shift in X’s approach toward content management.

Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has finally pushed out end-to-end encryption for personal messages and calls on Messenger and Facebook. It’s a promise that’s been more drawn out than the director’s cut of a Peter Jackson movie, but it’s here now folks.

End-to-end encryption? What’s that?” you might ask. Well, it’s a bit like whispering a secret into your friend’s ear in a noisy room. Only you and your friend know what’s being said.

In this case, Meta is the noisy room, but it can’t hear your secret. Your messages and calls are lockboxed from the moment they leave your device to the moment they reach the receiver’s device. Even Meta, with all its invasive tech wizardry, can’t peek inside.

READ MORE: What is end-to-end encryption?

This privacy upgrade hasn’t been a walk in the park. It’s been more like a hike in the Grand Canyon. In steel-toed boots. With a backpack full of bricks.

Messenger’s team of engineers, cryptographers, designers, policy experts, and product managers have been toiling away, rebuilding Messenger features from scratch for this very moment. And now, they’re ready to show it off.

But Meta hasn’t just rolled out end-to-end encryption and called it a day. They’ve thrown in a few extra goodies.

Messenger now lets you edit a message up to 15 minutes after it’s been sent (for those “Oops, typo!” moments), and you can also enjoy higher-quality media.

The image shows two smartphones side by side against a purple background, displaying a conversation with disappearing messages about gratitude for a show and making plans.
Image: KnowTechie.

There’s also a disappearing messages feature that makes your messages vanish into thin air 24 hours after being sent. Perfect for those “This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds” scenarios.

While this is a step forward for privacy, it’s worth mentioning that group chats in Messenger and Instagram messages are still twiddling their thumbs on the encryption waiting list.

But hey, one step at a time, right?

All said and done, it’s clear that Meta is taking strides in the right direction, even if it took them a while to lace up their running shoes. So, get out there and enjoy your newfound privacy, Messenger users.

The post How to download and delete your data from Facebook appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Facebook started in 2004, as a platform for college students at specific schools, and then was made public to the entire planet in 2006. Now in 2023, some users have photos, videos, and posts from almost two decades.

If you are contemplating leaving the platform due to reports over how your data was mishandled, but have been worried about losing your content, know that you can take it with you.

There is a way to download all of your content from Facebook. You do not have to worry about Facebook holding your media and data hostage. Take charge and snatch it back from them.

How to download your Facebook data and photos

This image shows a digital interface for downloading personal information from a social media platform, offering a password-protected file with a request option.

Facebook has streamlined the process for retrieving your data somewhat, so it’s a fairly short process. Here’s how to download any of your data you want to save.

  1. Log in to your account

    facebook desktop profile picture

Head to Facebook on your computer, and click your profile image at the top-right.

  2. Head to Settings

    facebook desktop settings and privacy

    Click on Settings & privacy.

  3. facebook desktop settings button

    Then click on Settings.

  4. Start the download process

The image shows a Facebook account settings menu

There will be an option about halfway down that will include a “Download your information” link. Click it, then click Continue on the next page.

  5. Request your information

This image shows a digital interface for downloading personal information from a social media platform, offering a password-protected file with a request option.

Click on Request a download, then follow the steps to choose which information you want, and the time period you want it from.

  6. Wait for Facebook to package your information

Once it is ready for download, you’ll get a notification and an email telling you it’s ready. You’ll have four days from that email to download the data, so don’t delay.

If you want to permanently delete your Facebook account, follow the steps below.

How to permanently delete your account on Facebook

The image shows a Facebook account deletion screen, providing options for deactivating, downloading information, and deleting the account permanently.
Image: KnowTechie
  1. Click on this link. This link is deep within Facebook’s Help section and is somewhat hard to find.
  1. Click on Delete account, enter your password, and confirm by clicking on Delete account again.

Meta says that you can reactivate your account at any time in the 30 days following the deletion request. After that, the deletion process will start and you will lose access to your data and uploads.

After you are done with deleting your account, make sure you remove the Facebook app from all of your devices including cell phones, tablets, smart TVs, and anywhere else you have it.

Another good preventive measure to take to ensure all of your data is deleted is to delete all of the other third or first-party apps you have connected to Facebook before you delete your account.

It seems like other applications collect data from Facebook, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

Facebook still tracks you even if you don’t have an account, but at least you’re not giving them additional information.

What do you think about the recent Facebook reports about the social media platform’s data collection? Do you feel safe on the website? Are or have you deleted your Facebook account? Let us know down in the comments or carry the discussion to our Twitter.

Break out the confetti, iPhone users! Your WhatsApp images and videos will no longer look like they’ve been through a blender.

As reported by 9to5Mac, WhatsApp’s latest iOS update allows you to send media in their original, unblemished form.

Previously, WhatsApp’s “save-the-bandwidth” approach compressed your media, often turning your high-quality photos and videos into pixelated shadows of their former selves.

However, according to India Today, that’s all changing. The new update lets users send photos and videos at full quality, no strings attached.

A smartphone screen displays the WhatsApp Messenger app update page with new features listed, against a gradient pink and purple background.

How to send a full-resolution image on WhatsApp from iPhone

To keep your media’s quality intact, select Document instead of Photo or Video after hitting the + button. Then, pick your photo or video, and voila, your recipient gets the full-res file.

The catch? The recipient won’t see a media preview, just the filename.

While Android users are still waiting for this feature, this update sees WhatsApp finally catching up to the likes of iMessage, which has always allowed full-quality media sharing.

So, as WebProNews notes, iPhone users, get ready to share your high-quality memes, holiday snaps, and pet pics without worry.

The platform made the announcement through a blog post, where the company spilled some beans about its new experimental AI tool for YouTube Shorts called Dream Track.

What is YouTube’s new AI tool, Dream Track?

This isn’t YouTube’s first AI-powered tool. According to the company, the AI tool uses “Google DeepMind’s most advanced music generation model to date, Lyria.”

The company has even partnered with nine artists exclusively for this experiment. The list includes Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain, and Troye Sivan.

Reportedly, Dream Track will also allow a select group of US creators to type an idea into the creation prompt and choose from a number of artists.

The tool will also turn the text into a 30-second Shorts soundtrack featuring an AI-generated voice of that chosen artist, which is really cool.

Additionally, it is also working on a number of AI tools to enhance the creative process.

For example, you will be able to create a new guitar riff just by humming it. The company has even suggested the possibility of using the tool to shift genres.

The announcement compares this AI innovation with the inception of the synthesizer, stating it “changed the face of electronic and rock music.”

However, it’s not the same. There’s a key difference. A synthesizer can’t be used as easily to capture someone else’s talent and potentially capitalize off of it.
