Apple provided access to the developers with an Apple Vision Pro Developer Kit a few months back for developing apps for the platform, complete with visionOS branding guidelines.

The headset arrives on February 2, and the Cupertino company has made it possible for developers to submit their apps. The visionOS applications are finally rolling out today.

Apps for the Apple Vision Pro have started rolling out

The developers who submitted their application for the visionOS for the App Store Review at the beginning of this month are getting email notifications today.

The email is basically telling them that the applications submitted by them have been approved. And now, they are available for download on the visionOS App Store.

However, developer Dylan McDonald also noticed that the iOS App Store is also showing which apps are compatible with the device.

While there are still a few weeks left for the Apple Vision Pro’s launch, select journalists and developers have been publishing hands-on experiences. So, it’s not surprising that Apple has made the visionOS apps available on the App Store right now.

Since the spatial computer’s announcement back in 2023, Apple has been hosting labs all around the globe for developers to test their apps.

A few of them were even able to obtain a developer’s kit, which needs to be returned to Apple after the headset’s launch.

Apple Vision Pro starts at $3,499 in the configuration with 256GB of storage. The official launch is set for February 2.

WhatsApp starts rolling out custom sticker maker for iOS users https://knowtechie.com/custom-sticker-maker-for-whatsapp-for-ios/ https://knowtechie.com/custom-sticker-maker-for-whatsapp-for-ios/#respond Fri, 12 Jan 2024 16:03:48 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=356313 Android users may have to wait a bit for this feature.

The post WhatsApp starts rolling out custom sticker maker for iOS users appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
WhatsApp is taking its custom sticker feature to a whole new level with the new update. The new changes to the feature will make it easier to customize stickers before posting them.

However, Meta is currently only rolling out this feature to iOS 17 or later. There’s no word on when this feature is making its way to the Android platform. But knowing Meta, it won’t take long.

Create custom stickers on WhatsApp, but only on iOS

According to the folks at WABetaInfo, the new feature was quietly introduced to the iOS version of the application – Version 23.3.77.

While you were already able to create stickers by dragging and dropping images from your Gallery into the app, the new update takes the function a bit further.

It lets you draw on them or add another sticker.

you can add test and drawings to your WhatsApp's custom stickers
Image: WhatsApp

If you want to create a sticker from an existing image, navigate to the Sticker Tray and choose the Create Sticker option. After that, select an image from the Gallery.

From here, you can customize your sticker by adding text, cutouts, or even drawing on it.

You will also be able to edit older stickers from the Sticker Tray – long-press and choose Edit Sticker.

That said, the Web version of the app already has this feature, but being able to do it on a mobile is more practical and convenient.

Meanwhile, Android users can only view and react to custom stickers for now.

Google, Samsung partner to merge Nearby Share into Quick Share https://knowtechie.com/google-nearby-share-renamed-quick-share/ https://knowtechie.com/google-nearby-share-renamed-quick-share/#respond Wed, 10 Jan 2024 14:57:52 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=355748 The merged Quick Share will roll out starting next month.

The post Google, Samsung partner to merge Nearby Share into Quick Share appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Google’s Nearby Share is getting a new name, courtesy of the company’s tie-up with Samsung to merge it into the company’s Quick Share.

Most Android users should be familiar with Nearby Share. Google introduced it back in 2020 as its answer to Apple’s AirDrop

The feature enabled users to share images, videos, files, links, and Wi-Fi passwords between Android, Chromebooks, and Windows devices.

While a few prior leaks were indicating Google/Samsung collaboration, it is now official. Nearby Share will now be called Quick Share.

What are the differences between Nearby Share and Quick Share?

Samsung owners are very much aware of Quick Share. It is the Korean company’s proprietary tool for transferring files.

It is also very similar to Google’s Nearby Share, as both employ Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi Direct to find devices close by and transfer files.

However, unlike Nearby Share, Samsung’s file transfer technology only works for Galaxy users. While there is a workaround, it requires a few extra steps.

Another big difference comes in the form of the number of devices. Quick Share allows users to share files with up to five devices simultaneously, but Nearby Share sticks to transferring one device at a time.

The file transfer limits of both solutions also vary. Nearby Share allows 500 files/day of unlimited size, while the latter allows files of up to 1GB for a single transfer and a total of 5GB per day.

New Google/Samsung collaboration blurs the limitations

New Quick Share
Image: Google/Samsung

All these limitations should fade away after the merger, as it simply turns into Quick Share.

However, it’s unclear at the moment whether the merged solutions will be based on Google’s version of Nearby Share or Samsung’s existing version of Quick Share. According to Google’s blog post,

We’ve integrated the experiences and created the best default, built-in option for peer-to-peer content sharing across all types of devices in the Android ecosystem, including Chromebooks.

The companies are in talks with PC manufacturers like LG to expand the horizon of Quick Share to turn it into a pre-installed application for Windows PCs

Either way, Google will start rolling out Quick Share to all the Nearby Share-enabled devices next month.

Instagram makes it harder for teens to see sensitive content https://knowtechie.com/instagram-teenage-content-restrictions/ https://knowtechie.com/instagram-teenage-content-restrictions/#respond Wed, 10 Jan 2024 14:44:28 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=355782 New changes to Instagram and Facebook have started rolling out.

The post Instagram makes it harder for teens to see sensitive content appeared first on KnowTechie.

Meta is taking necessary steps to make its platforms age-appropriate for teenagers. After consulting experts in the field, the company has decided to make a few changes to its Instagram and Facebook platforms.

According to Meta, Instagram, and Facebook will now place teenagers on the most restrictive content control settings automatically.

Instagram will hide age-inappropriate content even if shared by someone you follow

Instagram Teen Restriction

Meta wrote in a blog post, “We already apply this setting for new teens when they join Instagram and Facebook and are now expanding it to teens who are already using these apps.”

Meta gives the example of someone posting about their thoughts of self-harm.

From that person’s perspective, it will be an important story, but the platform will hide it from its teenage users as the topic is complex in nature and may not be suitable for young people.

In addition, the platform will block terms like “suicide,” “self-harm,” and “eating disorders” in search of teenagers.

The platform will hide the search results and redirect the teenagers to resourceful places for help.

Different types of age-inappropriate content exist, and all of them will be removed from the Feeds and Stories of teenage users – even if it is shared by someone they follow.

Meta says it has already removed such content from Reels and Explore feeds available to teens.

These new changes have only started to roll out to all Instagram and Facebook users under 18 and will be fully implemented in the coming months.

Microsoft has officially released Copilot, the company’s smart assistant, to the Google Play Store. The new Android app is available for free, and you can download it today.

Copilot is Microsoft’s AI-powered chatbot, and as a part of the company’s AI focus, the Windows company announced that it will move its chat assistant and other AI tools under the “Copilot” banner, shifting from “Bing Chat.”

The information comes from WindowsLatest, and according to the outlet, Microsoft is also “nearly ready” with an iOS version and will launch pretty soon.

Upon downloading the app, you will get immediate access – a Microsoft login is not required.

The app is completely focused on delivering access to Microsoft’s AI chat assistant. There’s no huss or fuss, no clutter like Bing search or rewards. However, you will still have to face ads occasionally.

Microsoft has detailed the capabilities of its AI chatbot for the Android platform in detail through the app’s Play Store listing.

Copilot is a pioneering chat assistant from Microsoft powered by the latest OpenAI models, GPT-4 and DALL·E 3. These advanced AI technologies provide fast, complex, and precise responses, as well as the ability to create breathtaking visuals from simple text descriptions.

Chat and create all in one place—for free!

The app’s Android launch comes as a surprise, but it seems like the logical step for Microsoft.

While there’s no sign of an app for the iOS platform, the development is reportedly underway. So, if you’re on an iPhone or iPad, you can use the Bing app to access Copilot features.

Copilot for Android is available for download now on the Google Play Store.

Meta’s instant messaging app, WhatsApp, has been upping its game for a while now, and according to a new report, the platform is soon to roll out a feature to share music for video calls.

In the past few weeks, we’ve seen the app get the ability to pin messages to chat, sending self-destructing messages, and the return of the “View Once” feature for the app’s desktop and web version.

Now, according to the folks at WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently rolling out its latest beta version, V2.23.26.18, on the Google Play Store, which includes the function to share music in a video call.

The latest WhatsApp beta allows users to share music audio during a video call via the screen-sharing option.

The feature was first spotted in development earlier in another beta version of the app for iOS. But the latest beta reveals that the feature may come to Android as well.

While you may think the new function is only for those who love to share music with others in real-time, the feature is not limited to music. It applies to any type of audio.

However, the outlet has pointed out that the feature won’t work if the video isn’t enabled, i.e., you won’t be able to take advantage of the feature on voice calls or video calls where the video is disabled.

Unfortunately, it’s currently unknown when the feature will appear on the stable version of the app.

In this holiday season, WhatsApp is ready with another important update for Android users.

The WhatsApp beta for Android, V2.24.1.6, update brings a new interface when sharing channel updates to status.

This is all in line with Meta’s initiative to upgrade its instant messaging platform as a whole. For the past few weeks, the platform has received numerous updates, such as pinning messages in chat, self-destructing messages, email verification, and more.

As usual, the new change was spotted by the folks at the WABetaInfo. According to them, the new feature is only available to the beta testers but will roll out to more people in the coming weeks.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest update for the beta for Android, version 2.24.1.6, is only available to a select few, and those who have access are able to explore the new modified interface.

More specifically, with this update, the instant messaging platform has created a dedicated layout for the ‘channels’ feature, aiming to provide more clarity.

To check whether this feature is already available to your account, simply share the channel update to your status.

According to the folks at WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp interface offers an intuitive layout, “making it easier for users to interact and access shared channel updates.”

In addition, they have stated, “It’s very similar to the layout offered by Instagram when sharing posts as Instagram Stories.”

Meta’s instant messaging app, WhatsApp, recently rolled out the self-destructing messages feature and now, the company is rolling out the ability to pin specific messages in chats to the platform.

The feature was rumored to launch this year, and Meta is finally doing it. The platform also recently brought back the “View Once” feature to its web and desktop versions.

The app always had the ability to pin an entire chat but never the ability to pin a specific message in a chat.

The new feature makes it easier to locate a specific message in any chat and pin it to the top of the chat which is ideal to help focus on important information like dates, addresses, phone numbers, etc.

In addition, whatever you share will stay on the top of the chat for at least 24 hours. You also have the option to change it to seven days, or one month. Seven days is the default option.

Google Maps update will let you keep location history more private https://knowtechie.com/google-maps-features-move-around-discreetly/ https://knowtechie.com/google-maps-features-move-around-discreetly/#respond Wed, 13 Dec 2023 13:01:57 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=343258 Multiple features are coming to help you keep your Maps history private.

The post Google Maps update will let you keep location history more private appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Google Maps recently received a plethora of new features to combat fake content, and now the platform is getting ready for another set of new privacy-focused features.

Earlier today, Google announced these three new privacy-focused features in a blog post. These features will help both Android and iOS users keep their movements discreet and more private.

Delete activities right from Maps

According to Google’s announcement, Google Maps users will soon be able to delete their activities for a specific location straight from the application.

It will help if someone is snooping around. For example, you visit a place frequently and don’t want anyone to know, you’ll be able to delete your searches, directions, visits, and shares with a few steps.

The new function will start rolling out to both Android and iOS users in the coming weeks.

Changes to the Google Maps’s Timeline feature

Next is the timeline feature or more specifically, changes to the timeline feature. Google is making it possible to store your Timeline on your device instead of on the cloud by default.

The timeline feature on Google Maps works when location history is enabled and is designed to show the user a summary of where they have been.

More importantly, Google will restore the Timeline locally on your device to provide more control over your data. It means you will be able to delete all or part of your data instantly.

There’s also no fear of losing all your data if you switch to a new device, as you can back it up to the cloud, if needed. Google has promised to encrypt your information so no one except you can read it.

The company has also set the auto-delete function in Google Maps to three months by default, which gets activated when you enable location history for the very first time.

Upon its activation, three months’ worth of your location and movement data gets deleted automatically. Previously, auto-delete was set to 18 months by default. However, You could change it.

Accessing location control on Google Maps will also become easier.

According to Google, after the new update, you will simply have to tap the blue dot that shows your current location to access the advanced settings, like location history or Timeline controls.

These changes to the Google Maps timeline feature will start rolling out next week for both Android and iOS. According to Google, you will get a notification as soon as the update arrives.

What is Figma? https://knowtechie.com/what-is-figma/ Wed, 13 Dec 2023 10:06:47 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=237425 And why did Adobe buy it for $20 billion?

The post What is Figma? appeared first on KnowTechie.

Quick Answer: Figma is a browser-based tool that operates entirely in the cloud. This enables teams to collaborate and work on projects together in real time.

If you’ve spent any time on Twitter in the last few days, you’ve likely noticed all of the talk surrounding Adobe’s acquisition of Figma. The recent acquisition cost Adobe $20 billion, but what exactly is Figma?

Essentially, Figma is a collaborative digital design tool. It allows users to work together to create digital UI and UX designs for websites, apps, and other projects. And it’s cloud-based, making it accessible for both Windows and Mac users.

But most likely, Figma’s greatest asset is its collaboration ability. The tool is used by some big brands like Slack, Zoom, Twitter, and Walgreens, and collaboration makes Figma such an appealing tool for so many.

So, what is Figma, and what exactly does it do?

Figma is a browser-based tool that exists entirely in the cloud. That allows teams to collaborate and work on projects together in real-time, including the Figma community too.

That’s what really stands out about Figma, as similar tools don’t have the same collaboration abilities. It can be great for small or large design teams for some of its larger customers.

Who does Figma compare to?

Figma is most comparable to other tools such as Sketch or Adobe XD. It features a large community of designers that continuously share plugins to help make design and development simpler and faster.

How much does FIgma cost?

When it comes to pricing, Figma software is available completely free for small teams of no more than two editors. That free version only allows three projects during a 30-day period, however.

For unlimited projects and FIgma designs, you can upgrade to the Professional plan for $15 per month per editor.
