Music streaming platform Spotify is about to become a whole lot better for iPhone users in the European Union thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) rolling out on March 7.

One of the top complaints about Spotify has been the difficulty in subscribing to and buying things through the app on iPhones.

However, the DMA means that Spotify will finally be able to share details about offers, subscription prices, or even where or how to buy these, giving users an easier experience, the music streaming giant announced.

With the DMA prohibiting the ~30% tax imposed by Apple, Spotify can now communicate directly with users about subscription offerings, product prices, deals, and promotions in the app.

Users can expect clear information on prices for things like Premium subscriptions and audiobooks as well as new products for sale, promotional campaigns, superfan clubs, and upcoming events.

Image: Spotify

Spotify users in the EU can also look forward to hassle-free in-app payments. They will be able to buy a Premium subscription or an audiobook, as well as upgrade from an individual to a Duo or Family plan to save money with a couple of easy clicks.

With the new rules, Spotify can now give artists and authors increased exposure to new audiences and help them build a fandom of listeners and audiobook fans.

This is one of the first moves that will put a stop to Apple’s overcontrolling tendencies when it comes to apps installed on its devices.

Spotify decided to stop using Apple’s in-app payment system after a 30% fee was introduced for all purchases, which led to Apple introducing regulations about what commercial information can and cannot be shared within apps.

The European Union will be enforcing its Digital Markets Act starting March 7th, 2024, preventing large digital platforms from abusing market power.

As the date approaches, it seems that Apple is planning to split its App Store to comply with the DMA.

Unfortunately, Spotify users who live in other areas have more waiting to do since similar legislation is only in the works in a handful of countries.

If you’re not in the EU and want an alternative to Spotify, we’ve got you covered with a comprehensive list of the best music streaming services.

Are you looking for Spotify alternatives? Perhaps you don’t think the popular streaming service pays artists enough. Or maybe you have an issue with certain podcasters on the platform.

Whatever your reason for seeking a Spotify alternative, you have several worthy replacements to choose from.

Before deciding, you should ask yourself: what do you want in a music streaming service? Whether you covet massive media libraries, superior sound quality, or app functionality, the perfect musical match is out there.

Let’s discuss some of the most formidable Spotify alternatives.

Apple Music

If Spotify’s expansive song library appeals to you, Apple Music is a worthy alternative. Boasting over 90 million tracks, Apple’s music streaming service offers more volume and variety than most of us will ever need.

On top of that, the app is slick, functional, and also available for Android. All subscriptions include ad-free streaming, concerts and exclusives, live radio stations, and curated playlists.

You can also view time-synced lyrics as music plays, which Spotify only recently adopted. You also get lossless options on every track and Dolby Atmos on a large selection.

With a one-month free trial on offer, Apple Music is worth a look if you want a true—and perhaps superior–Spotify replacement.

Qobuz

Qobuz might not be a household name yet, but they’re one of the best lossless streaming services. You can listen to FLAC at up to 24-bit/192kHz, which is about the best quality that streaming has to offer.

With 80 million tracks to choose from, there’s a little bit of everything to enjoy. Especially if you like niche genres or small artists, as the service has a very eclectic mix, they’re always adding to.

The only real drawback? At the time of writing, Qobuz doesn’t have any smart speaker integration.

Qobuz has two main subscription options. Both give you studio-quality streaming, over 80 million tracks, editorial content, and offline listening. Sublime also offers discounts on purchasing Hi-Res music of up to 60%.

Qobuz subscription options

  • Studio Solo – $10.83 a month if billed annually at $129.99, otherwise $12.99 a month
  • Sublime Solo – $15 per month, billed annually at $179.99

Deezer

Deezer offers a good selection of songs, with a strong catalog of international fare along with familiar favorites.

For a long time, Deezer didn’t offer high-fidelity music streams, but the service is starting to roll out that feature on supported tracks — and it’s included in the cost of its premium plan.

Deezer Premium costs $11 a month or $99 a year; a student discount knocks the price down to $6 a month but can’t be purchased on an annual basis. Deezer also offers a family plan for $18 a month or around $200 a year.

Other Spotify alternatives include YouTube Music (which is included in YouTube Premium), TidalSoundcloud, and Qobuz.

Nearly all of the streaming music services mentioned offer free trials, so Spotify Premium subscribers who are looking at switching to a different service can try each one out before making a commitment.

Deezer | Online Music Streaming Platform Deezer | Online Music Streaming Platform

Deezer is a global music streaming service offering a diverse library of tracks. Known for its high-quality audio and personalized 'Flow' feature, it provides a tailored listening experience that caters to a wide range of musical tastes.

What We Like:
  • High-Quality Audio: Deezer provides CD-quality music streaming, ensuring a superior listening experience for audiophiles.
  • Flow Feature: Deezer's unique 'Flow' feature offers a personalized soundtrack, using smart algorithms to recommend tracks based on your listening habits.
  • Extensive Library: With a vast music library covering various genres across the globe, Deezer caters to diverse musical tastes and preferences.

Reasons to Stick with Spotify

Spotify is a pure-play audio company — unlike Apple and Amazon, which offer a number of non-audio related services, Spotify concentrates its efforts on building the best-streaming audio experience for customers.

And it shows throughout the product, with Spotify having one of the best user interfaces on the market that is both easy to use and offers a number of great features.

The ability to stream music, podcasts, and audiobooks within a single app is a huge benefit for those who don’t want to have to bounce between different apps simply to listen to the audio content that they want.

spotify ai dj 2
Image: KnowTechie

Spotify has also made significant investments in improving the service, including the introduction of an AI-powered “DJ” that shuffles through familiar tracks and surfaces new ones, complete with its own personality (which is, apparently, based on a real person).

And the service is widely supported across a number of platforms and devices, owing in large part to its decision to be hardware-agnostic.

Whether you own a PC or a Mac, an Android or an iPhone, an Xbox or a PlayStation, a Google Home or an Amazon Echo, a Roku or a Fire Stick (and, recently, an Apple TV), you can play music and podcasts from Spotify – it integrates with just about everything.

Choose the Spotify alternative that’s right for you

We’ve listed some of the best Spotify alternatives, including Apple Music and Tidal, but we can’t mention every platform in existence.

Other options certainly exist, but the services we’ve discussed more closely resemble the app we’re replacing.

If you despise every aspect of Spotify and none of the alternatives listed make you want to dance, embracing one of the lesser-known music streaming solutions may be more your style.

The post Spotify is reportedly prepping a new premium plan with HiFi appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Bloomberg recently reported that Spotify, the popular music streaming platform, might be on the verge of introducing a new premium tier that includes high-fidelity audio, which has been eagerly anticipated by many.

While Spotify’s CEO, Daniel Ek, has hinted at a new premium level to rival the likes of Apple Music and Amazon Music, he has remained elusive about when this might happen.

Both competitors have already incorporated lossless, high-resolution catalogs into their offerings without any additional charges.

“Supremium”

The rumored new subscription tier, internally dubbed as “Supremium,” could potentially offer extended access to audiobooks, besides lossless audio versions of Spotify’s vast music library, according to the report.

That’s about it when it comes to details. There are still a lot of unanswered questions.

For example, the report did not provide a specific timeline for the launch of Supremium. It did, however, mention that the service would initially be made available to markets outside the U.S. This usually happens when companies introduce a new product and want to see how it performs in real life.

The report also didn’t provide any insights into pricing either, but it is expected to be pricier than the existing Spotify Premium plan, which currently costs $10 a month in the U.S.

Spotify pricing

PlanPrice Per MonthNumber of AccountsFeatures
Individual$9.991 accountAd-free music listening, play anywhere – even offline, on-demand playback
Duo$12.992 accounts2 Premium accounts for a couple under one roof, ad-free music listening, play offline, on-demand playback

Student$4.991 accountHulu (With Ads) plan, ad-free music listening, play anywhere – even offline, on-demand playback

Wait, price increases?

Yup, they’re supposedly coming.

Ek has previously suggested that a price increase is on the cards. During Spotify’s first earnings call of 2023, he expressed confidence about the company’s ability to implement price hikes.

“I feel really good about our ability to raise prices over time — that we have that ability. And we have lots of data that backs that up,” Ek said in a 1st quarter earnings call. “When the timing’s right, we will raise [rates], and I think that price increase will go down well because we’re delivering a lot of value for our customers.”

Personally, I have never heard the words “price increase” and “will go down well” in the same sentence in my 38 years of existence, but hey, there’s a first time for everything, right?

Maybe Spotify’s HiFi audio will be the unicorn we’ve all been waiting for.

Not to feel left out, Spotify wants in on the AI hype.

The company announced a new feature called “DJ.” It’s an AI DJ that curates music for you and, for some reason, offers commentary.

Let’s not gloss over the fact that Spotify, a company with vast resources and a seemingly endless stream of revenue, has decided to christen its new AI DJ feature with the most unimaginative of names: DJ.

The virtual DJ selects tracks that align with the listener’s musical taste and delivers them through a realistic voice every few songs.

If Spotify Wrapped could talk, this is it

The commentary you’ll hear from DJ is just machine-generated scripts explaining your listening habits, why it chose the song for you, and facts about the track you’re listening to.

Essentially, if Spotify Wrapped could talk, this would be it. Here’s how Spotify puts it:

It will sort through the latest music and look back at some of your old favorites—maybe even resurfacing that song you haven’t listened to for years. It will then review what you might enjoy and deliver a stream of songs picked just for you. And what’s more, it constantly refreshes the lineup based on your feedback.

How to access Spotify’s AI DJ

Users can navigate to the Music feed on the Spotify mobile app’s home page to access DJ. You will be greeted by a green circle on a blue backdrop—that’s DJ.

Tapping on it will initiate DJ’s AI-powered personalized curation process, complete with lively monologues every five or so tracks.

DJ also works by mood, so if the current selection of songs isn’t to your liking, you can always change its mood by tapping on the bottom right of the app.

spotify ai dj screenshots

Spotify says they put a lot of work into this, but really, it’s just an AI playlist that they’ve offered in years past. The only difference is the annoying radio host that talks over tracks everyone in a while.

The question on everyone’s mind: does Spotify’s new AI DJ feature have a future?

Well, from where I’m standing, it’s unlikely. As a Spotify user, the last thing I want is a DJ or radio host chattering away while trying to enjoy my favorite tunes. I mean, after all, we pay for that privilege.

Maybe I’m wrong, but seeing the company sunset this in a few months wouldn’t surprise me.

Either way, give it a spin and see how it works for you. DJ is rolling out in Beta to Premium users in the US and Canada today.

How to download songs from Spotify and listen to them offline https://knowtechie.com/how-to-download-spotify-songs-offline/ https://knowtechie.com/how-to-download-spotify-songs-offline/#comments Tue, 14 Feb 2023 20:17:00 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=73492 With Spotify's new 10,000 song limit, you'll always have something to listen to.

The post How to download songs from Spotify and listen to them offline appeared first on KnowTechie.

Quick Answer: First, you’ll need a Spotify Premium subscription. Search for the song and tap on the “Download” button to the right of the title. To listen to your songs offline, go to the “Your Library” tab and tap on the “Downloaded” tab. From there, you can play any of your downloaded songs offline.

Short on time? Jump ahead

Spotify is a great app, but it requires some extra steps for offline listening. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to download albums or playlists on Spotify, and we’ll show you how.

For those with a Spotify Premium account, you can download any album or playlist onto your device for offline use. This can be super useful to help save data when you don’t have Wi-Fi.

And if you’re going somewhere that doesn’t have an internet connection, this can be a lifesaver. Here’s what you need to know.

How to download songs on Spotify mobile

Image: KnowTechie

With your Spotify Premium account, you can download up to 10,000 individual songs on each of five different devices.

The platform does require you to go online once every 30 days, so keep that in mind.

Since most people will use Spotify on their mobile devices, we’ll start there.

Start by opening the Spotify app on your Android or iOS device and making sure you’re logged into your account.

How to easily download songs on Spotify Mobile

Tap on Library at the bottom right (you can also navigate to any playlist or album any other way)spotify mobile library tab

Navigate to the playlist or album you wish to download and select it spotify mobile select album

Tap the gray down arrow at the top left of the list of songs to begin your downloadspotify mobile download album

That’s all there is to it. Once you download an album or playlist, it will be marked with a green down arrow to signal that it can be played offline.

And downloaded music automatically plays from your device instead of streaming. So, listening to downloaded songs won’t use any data even if you are online.

After downloading, you can navigate to your library to find the album or playlist with the green down arrow to play music offline.

You’ll also notice a new Downloaded tab at the top of the library window. This option will bring up a full list of Spotify songs you’ve downloaded on that particular device.

How to download Spotify songs on your computer

Downloading isn’t limited to just the Spotify mobile app. You can also download songs for offline play on your computer or any desktop.

However, this does require you to download the Spotify app for desktop. Once you’ve done that, start by logging into your Spotify Premium account again.

  1. From the desktop app, select Your Library (you can also navigate to any album or playlist any other way)

  1. Click the gray down arrow at the top of the list of songs to begin your download

And that’s how you download songs onto your computer from your Spotify Premium account.

You can navigate back to the album when you’re offline, and you’ll still be able to play those songs.

Unlike the mobile app, there’s no actual tab that shows you where your downloaded music is on the desktop app unless you’re offline already.

If you want to see your downloaded songs, you can click the three-dot menu in the top left of the app. Then, select File and Offline Mode.

With Offline Mode enabled, you’ll see your downloaded songs front and center on the home screen. And to go back online, just repeat the process and uncheck the Offline Mode option.

Spotify downloads let you listen to music without an internet connection

One of the coolest features of Spotify Premium is the ability to download songs so you can still listen to music without an internet connection.

You can download the playlists you want to listen to at home on WiFi, so you don’t have to use up any data. It’s a super useful feature that all Premium subscribers can use.

Hopefully, this article tells you everything you need to know about downloading music for offline listening on the Spotify app.

Qobuz Pros

Qobuz offers many great features that appeal to audiophiles and music lovers alike. Here are some of the service’s biggest selling points:

Hi-Res sound quality: One of the main reasons to sign up for Qobuz is its stellar sound quality.

The company offers lossless FLAC streams at up to 24-bit/192kHz, which is about as good as it gets when it comes to streaming music.

If you have a nice set of headphones or speakers, Qobuz’s hi-res streams will definitely make them sound better.

The company has one of the deepest catalogs of any music streaming service, with millions of songs available to stream and download.

User-friendly interface: Another big selling point for Qobuz is its user interface, which is clean, simple, and easy to use.

The company’s desktop app is especially well-designed and makes it easy to find the tracks you’re looking for–whether you’re searching by artist, album, genre, or even mood.

Reliability: As one of the lesser-known streaming services, Qobuz is seldom overwhelmed with too many users, which means it tends to be extremely reliable.

Other streaming services can often crash due to excessive use. For example, Spotify is often down, which will unquestionably annoy its users.

Free 30-day trial: Last but not least, Qobuz offers a free 30-day trial to try out the service before you commit to a subscription. That’s a great way to see if Qobuz’s hi-res sound quality is worth the extra money.

Qobuz Cons

Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning a few drawbacks. Here are some things to keep in mind before signing up for Qobuz.

No smart speaker integration: Qobuz doesn’t work with any smart speakers, like the Amazon Echo or Google Home.

So if you’re looking fr a music streaming service that you can control with your voice, Qobuz isn’t the right choice. However, it does work with smart TV systems like Samsung TV and Chromecast.

The audio catalog isn’t exhaustive: While Qobuz has a very deep catalog of tracks, you may miss some of your favorites.

In that case, you may need to check out another music streaming service like Spotify or Apple Music.

All things considered, though, these are relatively minor complaints.

Overall, Qobuz is a great option for anyone who cares about sound quality and loves music, especially if you’re willing to pay a little extra for those perks.

Why Qobuz Is Worth It

Now that we’ve gone over some of the pros and cons of Qobuz, it’s time to look at why the service is worth your hard-earned cash.

Qobuz Offers True CD-Quality Sound

qobuz streaming quality comparison
Image: KnowTechie

The first reason Qobuz is worth it is that it offers true CD-quality sound. With a bitrate of up to 24-bit/192kHz, Qobuz is on the same level as Tidal’s HiFi subscription.

That means you’ll enjoy your favorite songs in high quality without worrying about sacrificing sound quality for file size.

Minimal to No Buffering When Streaming Music

Another big selling point for Qobuz is its lack of buffering.

When you stream music from Qobuz, you can be confident that you’re getting a consistent, high-quality stream without interruptions.

Besides, who wants to listen to their favorite songs with pauses in between?

That said, ensuring your internet connection is strong enough to handle high-quality audio streaming is crucial. Otherwise, you may experience some buffering issues.

Extensive Catalog of Music

hi res library streaming service
Image: Kevin Raposo / KnowTechie

Qobuz also has an extensive music catalog, with millions of tracks available to stream and download.

Whether you’re a mainstream pop or niche genre fan, you’re sure to find something you love on Qobuz.

To put things into perspective, the streaming service boasts over 80 million tracks, while Tidal and Spotify’s catalogs clock in at 80 – 90 million based on independent estimates by SoundGuys.

That means you’re unlikely to run out of songs to listen to anytime soon.

Besides, the company is always adding new tracks to its catalog, so you’ll never get bored of listening to the same songs over and over again.

You Get a Free 30-Day Trial

qobuz free 30-day free trial
Image: KnowTechie

As I mentioned, Qobuz also offers free 30-day trials to new users.

If you’re unsure whether or not it’s the right streaming service for you, you can try it out without committing to paying for a subscription.

Simply put, it’s a risk-free way to test out the service and decide for yourself whether or not it’s worth your hard-earned cash.

Qobuz Integrates With Many Devices

streaming speakers companies that work with hi-fi streaming services
Image: KnowTechie

Qobuz integrates with many devices, including popular brands like Sonos, Bose, and Denon. That means you’ll be able to stream your favorite tunes on your preferred device without any issues.

It’s also worth noting that Qobuz offers a dedicated app for Android and iOS devices.

So whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android phone, you’ll be able to enjoy your favorite tunes on the go. However, remember that the service doesn’t support smart speakers or game consoles.

So if you’re looking for a streaming service that you can use on your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, Qobuz may not be the right choice for you.

Discounts Are Available for Families

Last but not least, Qobuz offers discounts for families. If you’re a parent with young children, you can get a discount on your subscription.

For starters, up to 6 family members can use a single account. That means you won’t have to worry about your kids racking up a huge bill by streaming music all day long.

Plus, each family member will get their own personalized account with their own playlists and recommendations.

That way, everyone in the family can enjoy their listening experience without compromising.

Who Should Get Qobuz?

Anyone looking for a high-quality, comprehensive music streaming service will benefit from Qobuz. The service is worth considering if you’re a lossless audio fan.

Plus, if you often find yourself streaming over mobile data, Qobuz’s Hi-Fi plans let you download tracks and albums for offline playback in high fidelity.

Is Qobuz Better Than Tidal?

Qobuz and Tidal are two streaming music giants, but which one reigns supreme? Here’s a breakdown of the key differences between the two:

Qobuz boasts a larger selection of hi-res audio tracks, but Tidal has some exclusive content from certain artists.

Both services have a similar price point for their premium subscriptions, but Qobuz offers a cheaper option without Hi-Res audio.

tidal free tier
Image: KnowTechie

As for the user interface, it’s a matter of personal preference. Not sure which one to go with? Take advantage of the free trials and see which service floats your boat.

But ultimately, most audiophiles believe Qobuz is better than Tidal. While both services offer high-quality, lossless streaming, Qobuz’s sound quality is generally considered superior.

However, Tidal boasts a slightly more extensive catalog of songs. So, if you’re looking for a particular track that’s not available on Qobuz, Tidal is worth checking out.

Is Qobuz Truly Lossless?

Qobuz is a truly lossless music streaming service. That means you’ll be able to enjoy CD-quality audio without any compression.

Besides, the company offers a hi-fi plan to stream and download tracks in 24-bit/192kHz quality.

If you’re an audiophile, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better streaming service than Qobuz.

How Much Does Qobuz Cost?

how much does qobuz cost
Image: KnowTechie

As we mentioned earlier, Qobuz offers a couple of streaming plans. And compared to other music streaming services, the monthly subscription cost is pretty fair.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how much Qobuz costs for a single user:

Studio

$10.83 per month

  • Studio quality streaming (FLAC 24-Bit up to 192 kHz)
  • Over 80 million tracks
  • Original editorial content
  • Offline listening

Sublime

$15 per month

  • Studio quality streaming (FLAC 24-Bit up to 192 kHz)
  • Over 80 million tracks
  • Original editorial content
  • Offline listening
  • Discounts on Hi-Res purchases of up to 60%

The Bottom Line

Qobuz is a great choice for anyone looking for a high-quality, comprehensive music streaming service.

The company offers a wide range of plans to suit your needs and budget. Plus, it provides discounts for families.

With that said, Qobuz is not the right choice for everyone. You’ll need to look elsewhere if you’re looking for a streaming service that supports smart speakers or game consoles.

Nonetheless, if you’re looking for the best possible sound quality, Qobuz is definitely worth considering.

Tidal or Qobuz?
Qobuz

Qobuz and Tidal offer high-quality audio and a solid selection of tunes, but it's up to you to decide which option is best. Consider the size of the music library, the user interface, the availability of specific songs or albums, the audio quality, the cost, and any additional features or perks before you make your decision. Can't decide? Try them both out and see which one floats your boat.

Quick Answer: Only You is a Spotify Wrapped-like feature that includes personalized playlists and highlights of your listening habits, all designed to cater to your taste and enhance your app experience.

Only You is a suite of Spotify features highlighting your listening habits and curating playlists catered to your taste. Only You contains features that change how you experience the app.

Similar to the app’s yearly Spotify Wrapped feature, Only You will display a comprehensive list of your listening habits.

First up is your Audio Birth Chart. This feature will display a few different bands or artists separated into three categories: Sun, Moon, and Rising.

The Sun chart displays your most listened-to music over the last six months, and the Moon chart displays artists that reveal your vulnerable side.

Lastly, the Rising chart is reserved for those newly discovered artists.

Then there’s your Dream Dinner Party. This feature lets you pick three of your favorite artists.

Spotify will then generate curated playlists based on those three artists.

Then there are Artist Pairs, which highlight the variety of music you listen to by displaying unique combinations of your favorite artists.

The experience doesn’t stop there, either. Only You also includes a new Song Year highlighting your favorite time periods in music.

Spotify OnlyYou InApp 05 DinnerParty

There’s also your Time of Day that collects data about what you listen to at different times of the day.

By combining these features, Spotify aims to create a more personalized listening experience that fits everyone’s individual needs while increasing user engagement.

After checking out all of the Only You features, Spotify can create personal playlists that evolve to continue giving you that personalized experience.

Spotify Blend

In addition to these Only You features, Spotify is also introducing a new way to share music with your friends.

Spotify Blend is another new feature that evolves how we share and experience music.

Blend allows users to choose a friend to share music with. Once two friends have joined, Blend will create a playlist that evolves over time, combining the two friends’ interests.

The coolest thing about Blend is that the combined playlist will be updated over time as each listener’s music taste evolves.

All of these new features are out today. Spotify Blend is currently in beta, but it is available to all users on the mobile app.

Spotify Only You is a great way to find new music

Mobile Spotify users can now hop in and experience the Only You feature in its entirety.

While these features may not necessarily revolutionize how we experience music, Only You is a great way to make users feel unique while also providing insight into their listening habits.

Collaborative Spotify playlists take music streaming to the next level

Spotify Radio was a breakthrough when it came out because it would suggest songs similar to what you like and listen to.

However, artificial intelligence or machine learning can replace a human’s touch. That’s why collaborative playlists are so great.

Whether you prefer the desktop or the mobile Spotify app, you can start making and sharing collaborative playlists today.

Spotify has a playlist feature to compile all your favorite songs. But you’ll want to know how to delete a playlist on Spotify when you get tired of it.

Before we go further, you should know that you can only delete a playlist created by you and not someone else.

The post What is Spotify Live and how does it work? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: Spotify Live is a live audio chatroom platform similar to Clubhouse. It is available on Android, iOS, and desktop.

In an effort to offer users more options, Spotify launched a live audio chatroom feature in 2021 called Spotify Live.

Looking to bank on the previous success of Clubhouse, Spotify’s option offers similar features. Previously called Greenroom, users can listen to or host live audio chatrooms.

At present, it seems like the Spotify Live app has mostly been forgotten about, but we’ll break down everything you need to know about the service below.

What is Spotify Live?

spotify live shows in web app
Image: KnowTechie

READ MORE: Spotify is preparing to take over the audiobook industry

As mentioned, Spotify Live is an audio chatroom platform.

There is a standalone app for iOS and Android that lets users create live chatrooms around topics that people can join and enter into the discussion.

Spotify also struck exclusive programming with its official launch. This includes creators like DJ Akademiks and Hasan Minhaj.

READ MORE: Spotify wants to share your listening habits in real-time

Spotify Live can be accessed from its standalone app or creators’ pages in the main app. However, because of this, discoverability is much easier in the standalone app.

How does Spotify Live work?

spotify live homescreen
Image: KnowTechie

While you can listen to live shows from the main, you’ll have to use the Spotify Live standalone app to interact with the shows.

This means creating a separate account for Spotify Live when you load the app for the first time (you can link to your original Spotify account to make the process easier).

spotify live login
Image: KnowTechie

Once you are in the app, you can search and follow your favorite creators. There are also “Groups” that you can join to find live chats around specific topics.

READ MORE: What is Spotify’s ‘Only You’ feature, and how does it work?

On the front page, you’ll find the most popular chatrooms that are live at the moment, as well as a schedule for upcoming live programming.

group options in chatroom
Image: KnowTechie

You can join in on any chat you see by clicking the Join room banner in the chat. Conversely, you can head to Groups to find rooms with specific topics.

To create your own room, tap the green Create room button on the home page.

Image: KnowTechie

You will have a few decisions to make, such as the topic, whether or not there is a discussion room, and if you want the live room to be recorded.

And that’s all you need to know about the new Spotify Live app.

Spotify Live certainly exists

At present, it doesn’t seem like people have flocked to Spotify’s live audio option. Live audio chatrooms were all the rage during lockdowns, but that popularity has started to drop quickly.

Time will tell if Spotify continues to support Spotify Live or if it will eventually be phased out of the streaming giant’s future plans.
