You can, if you have the right TV.

Ring makes some of the best home security cameras, including the video doorbells they’re best known for. The app is excellent for showing a live stream of the camera, but what if you want to see it on a larger screen?

Well, you could use an Echo Show to view the feed, as Amazon has deep integrations between all the devices it owns, from security cameras to smart thermostats.

You might wonder if you could use something you already own, like a smart TV, to view your Ring video feed. Well, you can, but only on specific devices.

You can easily watch the live stream from your Ring Doorbell on a TV if it runs Fire TV, has a Fire TV device hooked up, or has the Samsung SmartThings app.

For any other smart TV system or streaming device, the only way to get your Ring Doorbell’s live feed on the screen is to screencast the Ring app from your smartphone.

Here’s how to get the live feed on your compatible smart TV.

View Ring doorbell on Amazon Fire TV devices

If you own a smart TV powered by Fire TV or any Fire TV streaming device, here’s how to get your Ring doorbell’s feed on your TV screen.

  1. Open the Alexa app

Pick up your smartphone and open the Alexa app.

  2. Open Settings

red arrow pointing to more button on Alexa App interface

Tap on the More button at the bottom right of the screen.

  3. Add the new Skill

Skill & Games button on App interface

    Tap on Skills & Games.

  4. Find the Ring skill

Find the Ring skill using the search function and tap on the list entry.

  5. Add it to Alexa

    ‘Enable-Skill-and-Link-Account-or-‘Enable-Skill

    Tap on Enable to use.

  6. Link your account

    sign-in-to-your-Ring-account

Enter your Ring credentials and sign in.

  7. Search for devices

    Discover-Devices-in-the-Alexa-App

Tap on Discover devices and wait as Alexa searches your local network for your Ring cameras.

You will receive a notification within a few seconds. Use voice commands like, Alexa, show the [exact name of your Doorbell] to view your Ring doorbell on your TV.

If you’re not seeing your Ring doorbell’s feed, there are a few things to check.

  • Make sure your Fire TV and Alexa App are using the same Amazon account.
  • Your Doorbell, Amazon TV, and smartphone should be on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Say the name of your Doorbell just like it’s set in the app.

View a Ring Doorbell on a Samsung TV

You can view your Ring Doorbell on a compatible Samsung smart TV with SmartThings installed.

  1. Open the SmartThings App on your phone.

When someone pushes the button, a small screen will pop up in thetop-right corner of the TV showing the live feed.

You can make it go full screen. If your Samsung TV model has a voice assistant enabled, you can even have a chat with the person at the door.

It shouldn’t be so difficult to watch your doorbell on your TV

Ring Doorbells have been around for a long time, and still only some smart TVs can view their video feed.

It shouldn’t be this difficult to view your home security camera feeds, and you shouldn’t have to be tied to one manufacturer’s ecosystem to do so.

Maybe in the future, we’ll be able to view any security camera feed from any smart device, as we can currently dofrom any smartphone. Until then, you’ll need a Fire TV or Samsung’s SmartThings.

Here's what you need to know.

Ring makes some of the best home security cameras, including its best-known device, the Video Doorbell range. While the app handles most things, a physical indicator light is used as a fallback for those times the app won’t be connected.

When the Ring Doorbell flashes a white light, it often indicates an error during the initial setup process. However, specific patterns are reserved for normal operations, such as firmware updates.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through each white light pattern on the Ring Doorbell, explaining what they indicate and how to respond.

What does a flashing white light mean on Ring Doorbell

All Ring Video Doorbells use the same patterns of LED lighting on the front of the device to indicate certain states to the user.

These could be to indicate it’s ready for setup, or has an issue, or even to show normal operation.

The only model with an additional indicator is the wired version, which has a lighting pattern indicating low voltage.

Here’s all of the white light patterns that you could encounter with your Ring Doorbell.

White light patternWhat it meansTroubleshooting tips
SpinningDoorbell is in set up mode, ready to connect to a Wi-Fi network. Usually only happens at first install or after a factory reset.Open the Ring app, navigate to your doorbell settings, and follow the instructions to enter setup mode and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

If the White Light keeps spinning longer than 10 minutes, reset your Ring Doorbell’s Wi-Fi.
SolidDoorbell is idle (only happens when it is wired to power)None necessary
Blinking on topA blinking light at the top of your Ring Doorbell signals a problem with the Wi-Fi password. Perhaps you entered the credentials incorrectly or changed your password recently.Update the Wi-Fi password of your Ring Doorbell through the smartphone app.
Blinking on rightRing temporary network access point is active.Finish the setup process to connect your doorbell to your home Wi-Fi.
Blinking on leftA blinking white light on the left side indicates an unknown setup problem not directly related to Wi-Fi signal strength, possibly due to router or network issues.Power cycle your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it for about 60 and then plugging it back in. This can help clear any network-related glitches.

Once the router restarts, try reconnecting the Ring Doorbell to Wi-Fi.
Blinking at the bottomIndicates a low voltage issue, and is only shown on wired versions.Secure wire connections, and ensure the transformer is suitable for the doorbell’s power requirements. On Ring app, navigate to the Device Health feature for further diagnosis and confirmation.
Navigate to Ring App Menu (three dashes)-> Device->Your Doorbell-> Device Health -> Transformer Voltage
Flashing on and off (1 Sec Off, 1 Sec On)Firmware update in progress. Be patient and do not interrupt this process. The update should be completed in about a minute or so.If still flashing after an hour, try restarting the doorbell. If that doesn’t fix it, try a factory reset and set up as new.

White lights on your Ring Doorbell don’t have to be mysterious

By following the tips outlined above, you’ll handle most issues that accompany a flashing white light on your Ring Video Doorbell.

If your device is still flashing white after troubleshooting, a factory reset might get it working correctly again.

As a last resort, you should reach out to Ring customer support for a refund or replacement if it is covered.

The post Does Ring camera work without a subscription? appeared first on KnowTechie.

Quick Answer: Ring Cameras do indeed operate without a subscription. You can access live video feeds and receive real-time notifications of any movement in the camera’s field of view.

Ring cameras have redefined home monitoring, providing live feeds and motion alerts that add a layer of security to your property. But does a Ring camera work without a subscription?

Thankfully, yes. But they do have some limitations.

But Ring’s decision in March 2023 to place several key features behind a paywall has left many users wondering about the value of the Protect subscription.

In this guide, we’ll dive into the specifics of what you can do with your Ring camera without subscribing and what you might be missing out on.

Understanding the Changes

The shift in March 2023 saw features such as recorded video history and alarm arming/disarming move into the subscription-only side of things.

But what does that mean for the average Ring user? Let’s find out.

Navigating Ring Without a Subscription:

Even without a subscription, there are several useful features that remain accessible to Ring users. Here are some of them that you can count on to keep your home secure.

  • Staying Alert: Even without a subscription, your Ring camera keeps you informed about activity around your home, sending alerts to your phone or smart home device whenever it detects motion.
  • The Community’s Watchdog: The Neighbors app by Ring, which is free to use even if you don’t own a Ring device, offers a way to stay informed about security matters in your neighborhood.

The Fine Print

Before we move on to subscription plans, let’s discuss some key features and protections that Ring offers, subscription or not. These may impact your decision on whether a subscription is necessary for your needs:

  • Warranty Woes: Ring has a one-year limited warranty that covers any manufacturing defect. Subscription or not, if your Ring device malfunctions within this period, Ring commits to repairing or replacing it.
  • Alerts on the GoMotion-activated notifications are a valuable tool for monitoring activity around your home.
  • Peering Through the LensLive View allows you to access real-time video footage from your Ring camera.
  • Theft Protection: If your Ring outdoor camera gets stolen, Ring will replace it free of charge, provided you have a valid police report.

How to fix a Wyze camera making noise https://knowtechie.com/wyze-camera-making-noise/ https://knowtechie.com/wyze-camera-making-noise/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2023 16:42:53 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=338753 This is more common with version 3 Wyze cameras, and is extremely annoying.

The post How to fix a Wyze camera making noise appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
If your Wyze camera is making an odd sound, that could spell trouble for your hardware.

The most common unwanted noises are static-like buzzing and repeated clicking, and neither is normal.

It’s also possible that you noticed the noise after troubleshooting some other issues, like Wi-Fi connectivity or recordings not saving.

Any noise coming from a Wyze camera that isn’t the motor noises from the pan and tilt variants is a bad thing. It points to a serious hardware issue, and your camera could fail at any moment.

Here’s what to check before talking to Wyze for a replacement.

What to look for when troubleshooting a noisy Wyze camera

Before we start, if you only recently bought your Wyze camera and it’s making noise, talk to Wyze support as a first step.

Security cameras shouldn’t be making noise other than any motors that might be used to pan or tilt the camera. In all other cases, it’s caused by faulty hardware and the manufacturer should replace it for you.

Replace the power adapter

A white charging cable and power adapter are set against a vivid purple background, displaying a minimalist and clean design with a modern aesthetic.
Image: KnowTechie

It is quite possible for an electronic device to make noise when it’s dealing with an inconsistent power supply.

Since the power adapter regulates voltage and current supply to Wyze cameras, it can be the culprit.

For some users, the static noise was followed by Wi-Fi connectivity issues, and replacing the power adapter and cable solved the problem.

Tweak night vision settings

Smartphone displaying a settings screen for night vision mode, with options 'Off,' 'Auto,' and 'On' highlighted, against a purple background.
Image: KnowTechie

If the camera is making ticking or clicking noise, this might point to a hardware issue.

Wyze cameras usually have night vision capability, achieved by an infrared (IR) cut filter mechanism.

The IR cut filter moves over the camera lens to capture clearer images in low light conditions.

While adjusting the position, the filter makes an audible click. This IR cut filter sometimes starts malfunctioning, creating a continuous clicking sound.

You can check by turning off the camera’s night vision settings. If the clicking noise stops, you know what’s causing it.

It’s not a user-replaceable part, so your next step is to contact Wyze for replacement.

Try essential troubleshooting steps

You can try basic troubleshooting steps to fix the noise issue. However, keep in mind that noise is likely to be a hardware malfunction and not something the end user can fix.

Here are some steps for you to follow:

This is a stylized graphic of a white web camera with a prominent lens, mounted on a stand, against a vibrant purple background.

  • Update the Wyze camera to the latest firmware.

Claim refund or warranty

A smartphone displaying an Wyze Camera App interface with options to "Add to cart" and information about "30-day hassle-free returns" against a purple background.
Image: KnowTechie

If you have recently purchased a Wyze camera and it’s making noises, it shouldn’t; it’s time to talk to support. Or, if you’re still within the return period, do that instead.

That’s good advice for any tech purchase, as you shouldn’t run into any situations that need troubleshooting that quickly outside of manufacturing defects.

If you purchased directly from Wyze, you can return your cameras within 30 days by contacting the company.

There should be no reason your Wyze camera is making noise when on

Your Wyze cameras should be silently surveilling your home while on and not making weird noises. The only exception is the pan and tilt variants when the motor moves to a new position.

If any other noises are coming from your camera, it’s time to talk to Wyze support. They’ll likely replace your camera under warranty or give you options.

We've got some ideas on how to do that.

The post Top 5 places to hide a Wyze camera on your property appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Want to hide your Wyze Cam but not sure where to start? We’ve scoured the internet for some creative ways to do just that.

See, while most security cameras are used as a visual deterrent, sometimes you want a stealthy camera so that it has more chance of catching a security issue. You’ll want a Wi-Fi enabled camera to hide the least cables as well.

If would-be thieves decide to side-step the visible cameras, placing a hidden one in the places not covered by the obvious cameras will catch them in the act.

Just make sure that putting a hidden camera on your property is legal in the state you live in. We wouldn’t want to get anyone in trouble.

Here are some great inspirations from Wyze cam users

Here are the top 5 hiding spots or camouflage options for Wyze Cameras as tried and tested by the community.

Inside a birdhouse

Image: KnowTechie

For outdoor use, you can place battery-powered Wyze cams inside a birdhouse, but be sure the hole is the right size for the camera lens.

If you’re up to running wiring, you can also use wired Wyze cams in the same manner, but you’ll want to hide the cables; otherwise, your camouflage efforts will be spoiled.

Inside a fake object like a plant or book

A black smart speaker with a green artificial plant on top against a gradient purple and pink background, blending technology with home decor.
Image: KnowTechie

You can place the Wyze camera inside a fake plant housing (or fake rock, pot, or book). This works best for indoor cameras.

When choosing a plant disguise for your Wyze cams, make sure:

  • It won’t cover any of the primary functions or lenses of the camera.
  • Offers a proper fit for your specific Wyze cam.
  • Blends inconspicuously with your interior decor.

Also, you might want to turn off the infrared LEDs; otherwise, the red light when recording will give it away.

Mount it on a window

A device with a white body and black top is mounted on a window frame against a vibrant pink background with a KiwiCo logo in the corner.
Image: KnowTechie

Wyze sells this amazing window mount that allows you to attach your Wyze cam to a glass surface. If appropriately installed (preferably at the corner of a front-facing window), it gives you a clear, expansive view of the outside.

You can multiply the discreet factor if you have curtains or blinds that can partially obscure the camera while allowing it to see through the window.

Decorate your Wyze camera to hide it in plain sight

Put your Wyze cams inside paper gift boxes, or make whimsical character sleeves to fit them inside.

It adds a playful, decorative element to the technology, yet your Wyze cams would be hidden in plain sight.

Vinyl wrap or permanently paint the camera

These are viable methods to conceal your Wyze cams, allowing it to blend into its environment more seamlessly. The painting/wrapping works best for indoor cameras, whereas skins are better for outdoor cams.

Perhaps this could be a camo pattern for exterior cameras or a Rubik Cube or similar box toy for a camera used indoors.

As you design your unique hiding spot or pick a suitable camouflage for the Wyze Cam, make sure

  1. Please turn off the infrared and status lights through the Wyze app.
  2. Position your Wyze cams at a vantage point where they can still see the surrounding area.
  3. The camera remains functional (lens and microphones are unobstructed).

Hiding a Wyze camera as a backup recording device is worth it

Keeping at least some visible security cameras as a visual deterrent is wise, as is having a backup to catch the things the other cameras won’t.

That’s why you would want to camouflage a security camera in the first place and also to stop it from being stolen.

But again, please check your local laws before hiding a Wyze camera for discreet recording.

Again, you should check local laws before setting up your Wyze cameras for discreet recording. We wouldn’t want you to get in trouble for setting up your security system.

We'll show you what to do to get it working as intended.

Wyze cameras record to their microSD card, and can generally be depended on to record any events without issue. Even when recording continuously, they usually have no problems.

But, sometimes, they can glitch while recording. Often, a power cycle of the cam can get them working again, but if not, you’ll have to do some troubleshooting.

We’ll walk you through the most common reasons why your Wyze camera isn’t recording, and what you can do to fix it.

How to fix a Wyze Cam not recording to its microSD card

Whether the issue with recording is because of a damaged microSD card, or one that’s too slow for recording, we’ll get you back on track.

Troubleshoot the microSD card

A 32GB Transcend microSD card with SLC Mode is displayed against a gradient purple background. The card specifies speed class V30 and A1 rating.
Image: KnowTechie

The first thing to check is any physical damage, so pop the microSD card out of the camera and look for anything out of the ordinary.

If it’s fine, pop it back in and see if the recording works again. Sometimes just reinserting the card can fix things.

Wyze also has minimum specifications for recording to work optimally. These include:

  • Formatted to either FAT32 or exFAT.
  • Class 10 certified (Most cards these days are Class 10 or better, but older cards might not be).
  • Wyze cameras can use microSD cards with capacities of 8-256GB if using exFAT, or under 32GB if FAT32.

Though not mentioned by Wyze, high-endurance SD cards should be preferred.

If you are using a Wyze-branded microSD card, these already meet all of the requirements. For third-party cards, double-check that they meet the needs.

If the microSD card meets requirements and is still not recording, make sure it is inserted correctly and the camera is set up for recording events.

Here’s how to enable recording on a Wyze cam:

  1. Go to Settings

screenshots of wyze app showing how to get into settings

Tap on the camera in the list, then on the Gear icon at the top right.

  2. Enable recording

A smartphone screen displaying a "Local Storage" settings menu, with an option for "Local recording to micro SD card" toggled on, against a pink background.

Tap on Advanced Settings and toggle the switch next to Local recording to micro SD card.

  3. Now enable motion detection

The image shows a smartphone with an app interface for camera event recording settings displayed, featuring an activated motion detection toggle, on a purple background.

While in Settings, tap on Event Recording, then toggle the switch next to Detects Motion.

That sets your Wyze camera up for recording any motion it detects. If those are set, and the recording still isn’t working, try toggling them off and then on again.

Wipe the microSD card

Next, you can try factory resetting the card. There are two ways to do that:

Through a PC

Use a card reader to insert the card into your PC. Create a backup of all its files. Format the card to either FAT32 or exFAT.

An on-screen dialog labeled "Format SDHC (E:)" with options for capacity, file system, unit size, volume label, and quick format on a purple background.

Through Wyze App

Head back into Advanced Settings as before, then tap on Manage microSD Card, and then tap on Format SD Card.

Image: KnowTechie

This can often fix issues with recording on Wyze cameras. If the issue keeps coming back, it might be that your microSD card is wearing out, and it’s time to replace it.

Troubleshoot the Wyze camera

Sometimes, the Wyze camera could be the issue, and restarting it will get the recording working again. Unplug the camera, and remove the microSD card.

Wait about 15 seconds, then insert the microSD card and plug the camera back in.

You can restart the camera through the app. Open the app, and select the camera, then Settings. Tap on Restart Camera and wait a few minutes.

A smartphone interface displays options; "Restart Device" is highlighted in red. It sits over a vibrant purple background, suggesting a tech-related theme.
Image: KnowTechie

If this doesn’t fix the issue, check for the latest firmware updates. Your Wyze Cam and Wyze app should both be running on the latest version.

  1. Update Wyze App: Search the Wyze App on your Phone’s app store (Google Play store and App Store). Update if there is an option available.

  1. Update Wyze Cam: Open the app and head to Account, Firmware Update. Select your camera and update if there is an option available.

At this point, you should start considering a factory reset of your Wyze cam. We have a separate guide for it that covers all the Wyze cam and guides you through the setup process when the reset is finished.

It might be time for a new microSD card for your Wyze camera

If there is an issue with the card, and these troubleshooting tips won’t help, replacing the microSD card is the only viable option.

We recommend you buy the card directly from Wyze. The branded Wyze microSD card meets all the requirements, so it’s one less thing you might have to troubleshoot.

On the other hand, if the Wyze Cam is acting up, we recommend you contact customer support after you are done trying troubleshooting yourself. It could mean your camera is faulty.

How to transfer a Wyze camera to a new owner https://knowtechie.com/transfer-wyze-camera-to-a-new-owner/ https://knowtechie.com/transfer-wyze-camera-to-a-new-owner/#respond Mon, 18 Dec 2023 21:31:55 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=338763 We'll show you everything you need to know before passing a Wyze camera to its new owner.

The post How to transfer a Wyze camera to a new owner appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Are you planning to give your Wyze camera to someone? Whether it’s a gift or a sale, this guide will help you transfer successfully.

Before we proceed, there’s one thing to know. You can’t simply transfer the ownership in the Wyze app.

You’ll have to save any data you want to keep, factory reset the camera(s), and then the new owner can set them up as if they were brand new.

Here’s everything you need to know before transferring ownership of a Wyze camera.

Things to do before transferring Wyze Cam ownership

Back-up personal data

A hand is inserting a 128 GB SD card into a laptop's card reader slot against a vibrant purple background with visible laptop keyboard keys.
Image: KnowTechie

Start by backing up your data. Remove the microSD card and back up all the footage on the card. Format the card and reinsert it into the camera.

Or keep the microSD card; the new owner might want to install their own.

Reset the Wyze cam to factory settings

The image shows a close-up of a white webcam with a large yellow arrow pointing toward it, against a vibrant pink and purple gradient background.
Image: KnowTechie

Next, you should reset your Wyze Camera. After the reset is complete, you should also delete the Wyze Indoor cameras from your current account.

You should know that the Wyze Outdoor Cam cannot be factory reset manually. No matter what you do, they will remain associated with your current account (and the base station).

To disassociate, you have to remove the outdoor cam and the base station from your Wyze app.

This critical security measure makes stolen Wyze cameras useless, but it’s a bit of a pain if you’re trying to pass them to a new owner legitimately.

You shouldn’t try to delete the outdoor cameras and base station from the app when they are offline. This was a nightmare for many users as they had difficulty reconnecting the whole setup to a new account.

New owner setup

A smartphone displaying the WYZE app interface with options to add a rule or a new device, against a vivid purple background.
Image: KnowTechie

As you transfer the camera to the new owner, advise them to set it up as soon as possible.

They would have to download the Wyze app, create an account, and set up the camera from scratch.

Wyze indoor cameras rarely face errors while being added to a new account.

But for outdoor cameras, the new owner might have a hard time. Instruct the new owner to power cycle the base station and camera before setup.

Can we transfer a Wyze Cam Plus subscription?

Users with an active Wyze Cam Plus or any other premium subscription might want to transfer to the new owner along with the camera.

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible at this point. Your Cam Plus subscription cannot be officially transferred to a new Wyze account.

Wrapping Up:

There is no official way to transfer Wyze ownership. You will have to do it manually. That means resetting and disassociating the Wyze camera from your account and setting it up from scratch on a new account.

We hope Wyze comes up with a convenient solution to make this happen, as it did with the sharing feature on the Wyze app.

How to connect a Wyze Camera to Wi-Fi https://knowtechie.com/connect-wyze-camera-to-wi-fi/ https://knowtechie.com/connect-wyze-camera-to-wi-fi/#respond Mon, 18 Dec 2023 21:15:13 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=338779 We'll show you how to get your Wyze cameras back connected to Wi-Fi.

The post How to connect a Wyze Camera to Wi-Fi appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Have you recently changed the credentials on your Wi-Fi router? You might have noticed all of your Wyze cameras no longer work.

To get them working again, you need to change the Wi-Fi details on the cameras, but unfortunately, you can’t do this from the app.

That means you have to access every Wyze camera physically, factory reset them, and then set them back up with the new Wi-Fi credentials.

The outdoor models need to be removed from the Wyze app first, as a security step, before you can change their Wi-Fi details.

It’s a pain, but the setup process is fairly straightforward. Here’s how to get your Wyze cameras back on Wi-Fi.

How to connect a Wyze camera to Wi-Fi

It is recommended to remove all Wyze cameras from the app before updating the network credentials of outdoor cameras to avoid potential issues.

You’ll also want to have your new Wi-Fi credentials on hand, the Wyze App installed on your smartphone, and physical access to your Wyze cameras.

  1. Start by removing the camera from the Wyze app

A smartphone screen displaying the Wyze app page on a digital store with an "OPEN" button highlighted. Background is solid pink with a small 'k' logo.

    Open the Wyze App.

  2. Choose the camera

Tap on the Camera name you want to remove.

  3. Open Settings

Tap the gear icon to open settings.

  4. Delete the camera

A smartphone against a purple background displays a settings menu with an option to "Delete Device". The phone has a black bezel and a notch.

Scroll down and tap on Delete Device.

  5. Tap to confirm

    Confirm the deletion.

  6. Go back ot the home screen

A smartphone screen displays the WYZE app interface with options to add a rule, a new device, and a notice about Account Security 101 against a purple background.

Go back to the home screen in the Wyze app and tap on the + sign which is located at the top left corner of the screen.

  7. Add the camera

The image shows a smartphone screen with an open menu for smart device management, highlighting the "Add Device" option against a purple background.

Now select Add Device and then Cameras.

  8. Select the camera

A smartphone screen displaying a list of cameras in an app with 'Wyze Cam v3 Pro' highlighted in red, against a purple background.

Select your Wyze camera from the list and next follow the on-screen instructions to find and press the setup button.

  9. Press the reset button

Now, press the setup button which is usually located at the bottom of your camera.

  10. Enter Wi-Fi details

A smartphone screen displaying a Wi-Fi setup page titled "Other Network" against a pink background, with illustration of two people sharing a Wi-Fi connection.

Add the new Wi-Fi credentials into the app.

  11. Scan the QR code

Scan the QR Code displayed on the app with the Wyze cam.

  12. Wait for it to connect

A smartphone with a purple background displaying a "Connecting..." screen with a Wi-Fi symbol and an icon of a security camera.

Once the QR Code is scanned, your Wyze camera will take a few minutes to connect to Wi-Fi.

If you encounter issues along the way, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure you’re connecting to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, as Wyze cameras do not support 5 GHz networks.
  • Double-check your Wi-Fi network password to ensure it’s entered correctly.
  • Ensure your smartphone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network during the setup process.
  • Try factory resetting your Wyze Camera, as it will wipe out all settings on the camera.

It takes time to update your Wyze camera’s network

Changing the Wi-Fi network on your Wyze camera takes a lot of time. That’s because you can’t easily change the Wi-Fi details in the app, you have to physically do it on every camera.

That’s a pain, and the time involved increases with every additional camera you own.

There is a neat workaround to this situation that may or may not work in your case.

Try to configure your new router with the same SSID and password as your old one. This way all your Wyze cams will connect to a new router without any additional setup.

How to factory reset a Wyze Camera before selling it https://knowtechie.com/how-to-factory-reset-wyze-camera/ https://knowtechie.com/how-to-factory-reset-wyze-camera/#respond Sat, 16 Dec 2023 00:52:07 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=338775 Or maybe you think it will fix some issues. We'll show you how to factory reset all models of Wyze cameras.

The post How to factory reset a Wyze Camera before selling it appeared first on KnowTechie.

Are you having trouble with your Wyze Camera? Or perhaps you’re interested in selling it?

Resetting your Wyze cam to factory settings is the most straightforward solution in these scenarios. That’s because Wyze doesn’t have an in-app way to transfer ownership of a device.

However, the process may vary slightly depending on the specific camera model.

Learn how to perform a factory reset on the Wyze camera with this step-by-step guide.

Here’s how to factory reset a Wyze Camera

Here’s how to factory reset every Wyze camera that supports it.

  1. A person is inserting a red SD card into a wyze camera

Before you start, remove the microSD card if it has one inserted.

  2. Press the reset button and wait for the color that corresponds with your camera version

A metallic silver intercom mounted against a vibrant pink background with a speaker grille, control buttons, and a slot for communication.

Now, press the reset or setup button on the bottom of the camera while the camera is Powered On for at least 10-20 seconds, and the status LED light turns into a solid state.

  3. For Wyze Battery Cam Pro & Cam v2

This image features a black Wyze video doorbell camera against a purple background. The device has a camera lens, motion sensor, and LED lights.

Release the button when the Status LED turns solid yellow.

  4. For Wyze Cam v3, v3 Pro, Pan v2, v3, OG, OG Telephoto

The image features a compact, white security camera against a vibrant pink and violet background. The camera has a glowing red light, signaling activity.

Release the button when the status LED turns solid red.

  5. Wait

Wait for about 30 seconds for the camera to reset. The status LED will start flashing once done.

  6. For Wyze Battery Cam Pro and Cam v2

The image shows two identical black doorbell cameras with LED lights on a vibrant purple background; one is illuminated, indicating activation or recording.

The status LEDs will turn from solid yellow to flashing yellow and blue.

Note: You must remove the battery cover to access the setup button.

  7. For Wyze Cam Floodlight & Floodlight Pro

This image shows a white Wyze security camera with two LED lights on a purple background. The compact design suggests modern home surveillance technology.

The status LED turns from solid red to flashing purple.

How to reset the Wyze Outdoor Camera

You cannot hard reset Wyze Outdoor v1 & v2 cameras for obvious security issues.

Without this security feature, a potential thief can steal your camera, reset it to factory defaults, and sell it in the aftermarket.

However, you can power cycle these cameras to fix any bug or glitch affecting their performance.

Factory resetting a Wyze camera is the last step before contacting support for a replacement

Resetting the Wyze camera is usually your last resort while troubleshooting it for various connectivity and functionality issues. The best part is that it mostly magically solves the issue.

I hope you were able to reset the camera by now. It shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes.

Remember that you cannot perform a factory reset on Wyze Outdoor v1 & v2 models. Power cycling is the only available option to address any functionality issues that may arise.
