How to fix a Wyze Cam not recording to its microSD card

Whether the issue with recording is because of a damaged microSD card, or one that’s too slow for recording, we’ll get you back on track.

Troubleshoot the microSD card

The first thing to check is any physical damage, so pop the microSD card out of the camera and look for anything out of the ordinary.

If it’s fine, pop it back in and see if the recording works again. Sometimes just reinserting the card can fix things.

Wyze also has minimum specifications for recording to work optimally. These include:

• Formatted to either FAT32 or exFAT.
• Class 10 certified (Most cards these days are Class 10 or better, but older cards might not be).
• Wyze cameras can use microSD cards with capacities of 8-256GB if using exFAT, or under 32GB if FAT32.

Though not mentioned by Wyze, high-endurance SD cards should be preferred. 

If you are using a Wyze-branded microSD card, these already meet all of the requirements. For third-party cards, double-check that they meet the needs.

Is it plugged fully in? Does it have any visible damage?

If you find anything wrong with it, replace the cable and see if your problems should go away. If you use a power strip, try plugging the console into the wall.

Also, try using a different power socket. The metal springs inside sockets loosen in time, and this could be causing the issue.

Reset the power supply

You can also try resetting the power supply. Did you know it has a tiny computer inside? Resetting the power supply can fix any odd hiccups it is currently experiencing.

Other reasons your Xbox One randomly shuts off

Bad ventilation

If you notice your Xbox One is shutting off randomly, make sure that there’s enough of an air gap between the top of your console and whatever is above it.

That’s because that’s where the vents for hot air are situated.

An inch or more is a good amount of space. Move things around if something is sitting right on top of the console or if the shelf above is too close.

The vents for the fan inside your Xbox One are on the top of the console, so anything blocking this can lead to overheating.

If you get a message on your Xbox saying the console is getting improper ventilation, turn it off, wait one hour, move it to a well-ventilated area, and turn it on.

Dust build-up

Then look for any dust build-up around the vents on your Xbox One. You’ll have to clean it off or replace the fan if you see some.

Energy saving enabled?

Another tip is to double-check you don’t have the option that enables your Xbox set to turn off automatically.

If all else fails, you may need to contact Xbox Support

While overheating may be the most common reason your Xbox One keeps shutting itself off, other possible culprits exist.

There could be corrupted data, or your power supply might be on the way out. If that’s the case, check out the Xbox support page if none of these options fix your problem.

Finally, if your Xbox One keeps turning off at this stage, it’s time to talk to Xbox Support. They should be able to help, but they may ask you to send your console in for repairs. And we all know how that goes.

But then, the reality check: the subscription can’t be shared. Surprise! Upset? You’re not alone.

Apple, known for its shiny products and “think different” attitude, has agreed to cough up $25 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over its Family Sharing feature.

So, what’s in it for you?

If you were part of a Family Sharing group and bought a subscription to an App Store app between June 21, 2015, and January 30, 2019, you might be eligible for a piece of the settlement pie, reports MacRumors.

How much can eligible users get from this Facebook lawsuit

You could receive around $30, although this could change depending on the number of claims. But don’t get too excited – you won’t get more than $50.

Oh, and $10 million from the settlement will go toward attorney fees.

How to submit your claim to Apple’s class-action settlement

Eligible Apple users will be receiving an email soon and have until March 1, 2024, to file a claim. The final approval hearing is set for April 2, 2024.

If this all sounds too familiar, settlement members can claim a payment from a legal settlement for App Store subscriptions bought between June 21, 2015, and January 30, 2019.

Here’s how to start the process:

• Check Eligibility: You must have been in a Family Sharing group and bought a non-Apple app subscription during the specified period.
• Stay or Exit: Decide by March 1, 2024, to remain in the settlement for payment or opt-out to retain rights to sue Apple individually.
• Select Payment Method: If staying, choose ACH transfer or check for payment by March 1, 2024.
• Voice Concerns: Object to the settlement terms in writing or speak at the April 2, 2024, court hearing.
• Get Details: For full terms, visit the settlement website or contact Class Counsel.

Avoid contacting the Court for information. For more details and actions, refer to the settlement notice and official documents.

The lawsuit filed back in 2019, accused Apple of playing fast and loose with the truth about the ability to share app subscriptions via Family Sharing.

What exactly is Family Sharing?

Family Sharing, for the uninitiated, is a feature that allows up to six family members to share app subscriptions and other Apple goodies. But here’s the catch:

Apple lets individual developers choose whether or not to allow their app subscriptions to be shared.

The lawsuit claimed that Apple wasn’t exactly transparent about this little caveat, leading people to believe they could share all subscriptions available in the App Store.

The plot thickens as the lawsuit accuses Apple of placing Family Sharing ads on the landing pages of subscription-based apps that don’t support Family Sharing, allegedly leading “millions of customers” to download subscription-based apps.

Before we proceed, there’s one thing to know. You can’t simply transfer the ownership in the Wyze app.

You’ll have to save any data you want to keep, factory reset the camera(s), and then the new owner can set them up as if they were brand new.

Here’s everything you need to know before transferring ownership of a Wyze camera.

Things to do before transferring Wyze Cam ownership

Back-up personal data

Start by backing up your data. Remove the microSD card and back up all the footage on the card. Format the card and reinsert it into the camera.

Or keep the microSD card; the new owner might want to install their own.

Reset the Wyze cam to factory settings

Next, you should reset your Wyze Camera. After the reset is complete, you should also delete the Wyze Indoor cameras from your current account.

You should know that the Wyze Outdoor Cam cannot be factory reset manually. No matter what you do, they will remain associated with your current account (and the base station).

To disassociate, you have to remove the outdoor cam and the base station from your Wyze app.

This critical security measure makes stolen Wyze cameras useless, but it’s a bit of a pain if you’re trying to pass them to a new owner legitimately.

You shouldn’t try to delete the outdoor cameras and base station from the app when they are offline. This was a nightmare for many users as they had difficulty reconnecting the whole setup to a new account.

New owner setup

As you transfer the camera to the new owner, advise them to set it up as soon as possible.

They would have to download the Wyze app, create an account, and set up the camera from scratch.

Wyze indoor cameras rarely face errors while being added to a new account.

But for outdoor cameras, the new owner might have a hard time. Instruct the new owner to power cycle the base station and camera before setup.

Can we transfer a Wyze Cam Plus subscription?

Users with an active Wyze Cam Plus or any other premium subscription might want to transfer to the new owner along with the camera.

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible at this point. Your Cam Plus subscription cannot be officially transferred to a new Wyze account.

Wrapping Up:

There is no official way to transfer Wyze ownership. You will have to do it manually. That means resetting and disassociating the Wyze camera from your account and setting it up from scratch on a new account.

We hope Wyze comes up with a convenient solution to make this happen, as it did with the sharing feature on the Wyze app.
