Here's what to know about OLED burn-in.

The post What is OLED burn-in, and how can you avoid it? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: OLED burn-in is a faint afterimage left on the screen after heavy use. Avoid it by not leaving static images on your screen.

Developments in OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology means that OLED burn-in is rare. But that doesn’t mean it can’t happen.

Imagine spending big dollars on a slick new OLED TV only to have the logo of your favorite television station permanently burned into the display. That’s not how expensive technology should work.

Fortunately, you can take steps to avoid rare instances of permanent image retention. Let’s discuss OLED burn-in and how you can avoid it.

What is OLED burn-in?

READ MORE: Are OLED TVs actually better than QD-OLED TVs?

OLED burn-in occurs when a static image appears on the screen for an extended period of time.

Depending on your age, you may have encountered similar behavior on old CRT monitors, which require screen savers to avoid colors and images burning into the display.

While image persistence in LCD screens is usually temporary, OLED burn-in can be permanent, as the behavior stems from damaged pixels.

example images of iphone 15 oled screen burn-in
Image: @tarunvats33 / Twitter

However, most of us aren’t going to create the conditions necessary for long-lasting damage to occur.

On top of that, manufacturers design modern OLED displays to avoid most image persistence issues. But, in extreme circumstances, damage can still occur.

Therefore, knowing how to avoid OLED burn-in is useful. We’ll break down some of the best tips below.

How to prevent OLED burn in

oled burn in on tv
Image: Reddit

Static images displayed continuously for many hours or multiple days can create burn-in. For this to happen, you’d also need to set the screen brightness extremely high for a long period of time.

Here are some steps you can take to prevent OLED burn-in:

  • Don’t display static images, including logos and video game UIs, for extended periods of time
  • Change the channel frequently
  • Lower your screen brightness
  • Use a sleep timer if you’re prone to doze off in front of the TV
  • Don’t leave anything paused for too long
  • Use a screen saver when necessary
  • Switch the display off when not in use

If you follow most of these suggestions, the chance of experiencing OLED burn-in on a monitor or smart TV is low.

Also, you can prevent and remedy most instances of temporary image retention by enabling pixel shift if available, lowering screen brightness, and watching a video with no static elements.

Is it just TVs that experience OLED burn in?

Surprisingly, no. Steam Decks, Valve’s portable handheld gaming console, suffers from it too.

Screen burn-in on the Steam Deck is when a “ghost” image sticks on the screen. It can make the display quality worse over time. To stop this, try not to leave the same image on for too long.

Using features like screen timeouts or sleep modes can help, too.

TV burn-in is rare but not extinct

OLED burn-in is rare, but so is getting hit by a meteorite. Sometimes unlikely events do occur.

If you’re one of the unlucky ones whose screen experiences permanent image retention, you may have to pay for an out-of-pocket repair. Most display manufacturers don’t accept responsibility for OLED burn-in.

Sometimes, depending on costs, it might be better (and cheaper) to get a new TV. In those cases, check out our smart TV shopping guide.

How to see deleted Reddit posts and comments https://knowtechie.com/how-to-see-deleted-reddit-posts-and-comments/ https://knowtechie.com/how-to-see-deleted-reddit-posts-and-comments/#comments Sat, 16 Sep 2023 03:02:29 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=202817 The best Reddit posts and comments are often deleted. Here's how to get them back.

The post How to see deleted Reddit posts and comments appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: The best way to see deleted Reddit posts and comments is by using third-party websites like Rar Eddit and Reveddit. “Reveddit reveals content removed from Reddit by moderators. It does not show user-deleted content,” reads the website’s opening line.

When diving into the comments section of a Reddit post, there’s almost nothing more disappointing than seeing a deleted comment or thread that you know had good entertainment value.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see deleted Reddit posts and comments? It’s the forbidden fruit effect in action.

The moderator—or Redditor—who nuked the material is saying, “I don’t want you to see this,” which, naturally, makes you want to see it more.

Some background: Reddit has a policy of deleting comments in certain situations. This policy may be enforced if a comment violates the platform’s rules, contains personal information, or is deemed inappropriate or offensive.

The phrase “reddit deleted comments” refers to instances where comments have been removed from a post, causing them to become inaccessible to other users.

The decision to delete these comments is generally made by Reddit administrators or moderators to maintain a safe and respectful environment for the community.

Thankfully, “removed” doesn’t mean erased from history. Let’s discuss how to view deleted comments and threads on Reddit.

Short on time? Jump ahead

How to view deleted Reddit posts and comments with Unddit

UPDATE 5/8/2023: As of May 1st, 2023, services like Unddit and Reveddit are being laid out to pasture. These services relied on Pushshift’s Data API, and now Reddit is revoking its access. So if the service isn’t working for you, that’s probably why. Read Reddit’s decision here.

Unddit was previously one of the best options for viewing deleted Reddit content. By adding a bookmark to your browser, you could revive dead comments and threads with the click of a button.

Use Wayback Machine to view deleted Reddit content

Internet archives, such as Wayback Machine, may retain information longer than tools focusing specifically on Reddit.

However, to view deleted content, a snapshot must exist of the time when the comment or thread was still alive. In many cases, the timing won’t line up.

As a last resort, pasting the Reddit URL into Wayback Machine is worth a try, especially if it’s an older post. But don’t be disappointed if your efforts are in vain.

Are there any other tools I can use to see Reddit deleted posts or comments?

Previously, tools like Removeddit or Ceddit allowed you to view a cached version of the comment section. Unfortunately, those tools went offline sometime around 2021.

Thankfully, Unddit came in and picked up where they had left off.

Unddit offers a lot of the same functionality, with the only caveat being that it does not allow you to search for removed content in subreddits. The only option that we find and recommend is Rareddit.

Will you always be able to see deleted Reddit content using these methods?

reddit banner

No, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to view all the deleted content using these methods.

In all honesty, these methods aren’t foolproof, and there are a bunch of factors that can affect their effectiveness.

Some of it might not have been archived or cached, or maybe someone at Reddit just pressed the “delete everything” button. Who knows?

And to top it off, Reddit might change its policies or features in the future, leaving us all in the dark about deleted content.

I mean, we can’t expect them to make it easy for us, right? So, if you really care about your lost content, you might want to consider moving on and letting it go.

Should you dare gaze upon deleted Reddit comments?

screenshot of reddit showing the new search comments feature

Now that you know you can resurrect deleted comments and threads, you should probably ask yourself whether you should.

Often, content gets nuked for a reason, and absorbing all of that too-hot-for-Reddit material may have unforeseen consequences.

For example, reading a particularly contentious comment could cause your brain to liquefy and boil inside your skull. This is a known side effect of encountering internet trolls or particularly controversial content.

However, if you’re brave and adventurous, the potential entertainment value in reviving deleted content may be worth the risk.

Then again, we won’t judge if you decide to delete your Reddit account and never look back.

The post This simple feature solves any ChatGPT plagiarism claims appeared first on KnowTechie.

Quick Answer: If you want to avoid false plagiarism claims, you can utilize the “version history” functionality in Microsoft Word or Apple Pages.

With the rise of AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, that can literally write your assignments and articles, or even renegotiate bills for you, we can’t blame people for getting a little nervous.

While multiple tools have been developed to detect chatbot-related plagiarism, they aren’t one hundred percent accurate.

This means they may not pick up all plagiarized content and, worse yet, may generate false positives, throwing you under the bus for a crime you didn’t commit.

So, how can you prove you didn’t plagiarize an essay, article, or other piece of work?

The key is to show your working out, just like you would in a math test, to prove you know the material and didn’t cheat. How do you do this? A common feature is called version history.

Version history keeps a historical record of your edits, which you can then use to prove your innocence in the court of plagiarism.

For example, if you can provide your first, second, third, and so on drafts, anyone examining the evidence should be able to determine that you did the work. You didn’t use some chatbot to slap everything onto the page in a near-perfect state.

So, to keep you out of trouble, we’re going to discuss how to use version history in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Apple Pages.

Use version history in Microsoft Word

To use the version history feature in Word, documents must be saved to OneDrive.

Ideally, if you’re worried about ChatGPT-related plagiarism allegations, you should save all new Word docs to OneDrive so you’ve got a complete version history from the get-go.

You can access previous versions of Word documents by following these steps.

  1. Open your document

Open the document you want to check in Word.

  2. Check the version history

Find the version you want to load and click Open Version

  4. Save the evidence

Once you’ve opened the version you want to use to prove your innocence, you can save it as a separate document via File Save As.

You can repeat these steps for as many versions as you want to recover. Really, the more evidence you present, the stronger your case will be.

Use version history in Google Docs

If you want to use version history in Google Docs, you just need to type. When you edit a document, Google Docs automatically saves a new version for later recovery—or evidence—if needed.

You can check your Google Docs version history by following these steps:

  1. Open the document you want to check.

Once you’ve restored the previous version, you may want to save it separately via File Make a copy to save it to Google Drive or File Download to save it to your computer.

When you’re done collecting evidence, you can use the same process to restore the current version of the document.

You may also want to use the naming feature to name different versions for easy identification.

To do this, you’ll need to open the version history, click the More (three dots) button next to the entry you want to rename, and select Name this version. From here, you can enter a new name for later reference.

Use version history in Apple Pages

If you’re a Mac user who prefers to write in Pages, you can use the app’s version browser to view previous iterations of your documents.

The beauty of Apple’s version history is that you don’t need to save your docs in iCloud to use it, a bonus for all the anti-clouders out there.

You can view your version history in Pages by following these steps:

Always keep records to disprove chatbot plagiarism claims

If you don’t want to rely on version history tools to collect evidence on your behalf automatically, you can manually save separate versions of your documents at various stages of production.

The way you collect records doesn’t matter so much, as long as you can always provide proof that you, and not some clever AI chatbot, did the work.

For the record, this article was written by a human—assuming we’re not all just chatbots living in a simulation—and we have the version history to prove it.

The post Top 4 worst locations you can put an Amazon Echo in your home appeared first on KnowTechie.

Quick Answer: The obvious answers here are don’t put your Amazon Echo near noisy places, multimedia that can accidentally hijack it, or anywhere that you’re worried about privacy.

So, you’ve got your hands on a slick Amazon smart speaker, but there’s one pressing question you must answer: where do you put the damn thing?

Naturally, some locations are better than others, and several are complete no-go zones unless you take adequate precautions.

Newer Echo devices can extend your Wi-Fi, and all can help you listen to podcasts or call your contacts.

When it comes to ideal smart speaker positioning, don’t be left guessing. Let’s discuss the worst—and then the best—locations for your Amazon Echo.

Where (not) to situate your Amazon Echo or Dot

Near water, including kitchens and bathrooms

At this stage, none of the Echo devices are waterproof, so you should avoid placing them in any areas where they might get wet.

For instance, kitchens and bathrooms are generally locations where water gets flung around willy-nilly.

Even if your Echo isn’t sitting right by the sink or bathtub, it may still be in the splash zone. Therefore, you should avoid placing it and any other water-vulnerable electronics in these areas.

If you must have your Echo in a location where there’s a water risk, you should place it in the safest position possible, preferably somewhere up high, where it can’t get splashed or knocked into a sink, bathtub, or toilet.

Within range of your TV or other devices that play audio

samsung m8 smart tv feature
Image: Kevin Raposo / KnowTechie

If you place your Echo near a TV or another product that plays audio, you run the risk of your smart speaker accidentally activating via the wake command. Ideally, only you and authorized individuals should be saying the magic word within range.

However, a TV show, a movie, a podcast, or an ad could drop an “Alexa” without warning and summon your Echo into action.

If you can’t avoid placing your Amazon device near another audio source and are experiencing accidental activations, you may want to change Alexa’s wake word to something more obscure.

Currently, the available Alexa wake words are Alexa, Amazon, Echo, Computer, and Ziggy.

Yeah, most of those are actually obscure, but if Alexa is a common word in your household or in the audio content you consume, changing the wake command to something else may be the better choice.

Plus, it’s pretty common for Echo speakers to trigger on similar-sounding words.

Near open windows or other unsecured locations

Really, your Echo is a private device for you and your household, and random passersby or sneaky stalkers shouldn’t have easy access to the speaker.

Ideally, you should avoid placing the device anywhere unauthorized people might be able to activate it, including in insecure outdoor locations and by open windows.

If you can’t avoid sketchy individuals getting close to your Echo, changing the wake word may be enough to thwart their attempts to hijack your smart speaker. For a temporary solution, muting the microphone may also be an option.

Areas where private conversations take place

By default, your Amazon Echo device records all of your conversations. Are you really surprised?

Because Alexa is always listening—and remembering—you should avoid placing her in any locations where you’re discussing secrets, such as what you did last summer. You know what we’re talking about.

Granted, most Echo devices are going to pick up private conversations no matter where you place them. So, you may want to stop Amazon from gathering recordings altogether, which you can do through the privacy settings in the Alexa app.

Best locations for your Amazon Echo

Quick Answer: Your iPhone speaker has a lot more versatility than you’d think. There are settings within your device that can amp up the sound. Plus, many apps, like Spotify, offer even more volume control.

By nature, most phone speakers don’t pack too much of an audible punch, and the iPhone is no different. If you don’t want to use headphones, there are a few tricks to boost your iPhone speaker’s volume.

Some solutions are more physical, while others involve minor settings tweaks. All will help you listen to music or podcasts in a noisy environment.

Are you tired of constantly squinting your ears? Let’s discuss how to make your iPhone speaker louder.

Physically make your iPhone speaker louder

Source: KnowTechie

When wanting to increase the volume of your iPhone speaker, you should ensure that you’ve physically optimized the device for maximum audio output.

What do we mean by this?

Here are four simple tips you can use to make your iPhone speaker louder:

  1. Crank the volume up as loud as necessary.
  2. Ensure that nothing, including your case, is obstructing the speaker.
  3. Check the speaker for dust and debris and clean if necessary.
  4. Position your iPhone so the speaker is pointed towards you.

Let’s discuss each tip in more detail.

Firstly, it may sound obvious, but you should crank the volume up as loud as necessary to hear what you’re playing. The volume up/down buttons are on the side of the phone.

Next, you should ensure that nothing is obstructing the speaker at the bottom of your device. The speakers on most iPhones are at the bottom right and above the screen in the notch.

Most quality cases will give your speaker plenty of room to breathe, but you should always double-check just in case.

Additionally, you should examine your phone’s speaker for any dust or debris, which can reduce sound quality and volume, and clean if necessary.

Finally, the placement of your iPhone will affect how well you can hear its output. For example, if the speaker is facing away from you, the audio won’t sound as loud and clear as it would if the speaker were aimed at your head.

Avoid trying to jam the speaker directly into your ear, but good positioning makes a world of difference.

Adjust EQ settings to make your iPhone speaker louder

If everything is A-OK on the physical front, it’s time to turn to software to fix your soft-spoken speaker. The tips in this section apply to Apple Music and Spotify users only, as the settings we’re going to tweak won’t universally affect your device.

Make Apple Music louder

If you’re an Apple Music user, there are a couple of settings you can adjust that can boost audio volume.

Firstly, you should switch off Sound Check if it’s enabled. Sound Check forces all songs in Apple Music to play at the same volume, which is useful but could be causing your low-volume woes.

You can switch off Sound Check by following these steps.

  1. Head to Settings

iphone screen showing the music settings option on purple background

Open Settings, scroll down to Music and tap on it.

  2. Disable Sound Check

screenshot of iPhone Settings with the Sound Check option highlighted

Find the toggle for Sound Check and tap it if it’s enabled so it turns off.

  3. Now tweak your equalizer settings

    iPhone Settings > EQ tab

While still in the Music settings, tap on EQ.

  4. Choose an EQ setting

iPhone Settings > EQ > Loudness tab

We suggest using Loudness, which will boost the low-end at lower listening volumes. Or you could try Late Night, which also increases max volume, at a minor hit to audio quality.

When it comes to picking an EQ setting, you should test the two recommendations and see which one gives you the more powerful audio punch.

Make Spotify louder

If you’re a premium Spotify user, there are a couple of settings you can tweak to boost audio volume.

Firstly, you can tell your app to play all audio louder, which is exactly what we want.

To boost Spotify’s overall volume, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Spotify app and tap the Settings (gear) icon.

  1. In the Playback section, tap the current selection for Volume level.

Next, if you’re still having audio issues, you should switch off audio normalization by following these steps:

  1. Launch the Spotify app and tap the Settings (gear) icon.

  1. In the Playback section, toggle off Enable Audio Normalization.

Audio normalization forces all audio to play at the same volume, which can cause some tracks to play quieter than they normally would.

Use a Bluetooth speaker to increase iPhone volume

If you’ve tried every tip and tweak and your iPhone still isn’t loud enough, it might be time to admit that the built-in speaker isn’t up to the task. So, what’s the alternative?

We’re going to assume you’ve already considered headphones or earphones and decided they aren’t for you. In this case, a nice, loud, portable Bluetooth speaker may be the fix you’re looking for.

Bluetooth speakers come in all shapes and sizes, so you should be able to find one that suits your specific needs. Some are even pocket-sized, so you can cart them around with you wherever you go without feeling too weighed down.

You can increase your iPhone volume in many ways

Generally, whether physical or software-based, one or some of the solutions mentioned should give your iPhone speaker the volume boost it needs.

For some of us, however, the built-in speaker just isn’t enough. We need more. Nay, we deserve more.

Sometimes, it’s OK to admit defeat and call in the heavy hardware, which, in this case, comes in the form of a slick set of headphones or a powerful Bluetooth speaker.

Because at the end of the day, we can’t expect too much from our tiny mobile devices.

We'll show you how.

The post How to turn on Airplane Mode in Windows 11 appeared first on KnowTechie.

Quick Answer: Turning on Airplane Mode in Windows 11 is a straightforward process. Here are the steps:

– Click on the Start button at the bottom left of your screen.
– Select the Settings option (represented by a gear icon).
– In the Settings window, choose Network & Internet.
– On the left-hand side, click on Airplane mode.
– Toggle the switch under “Airplane Mode” to On.

Airplane mode is an ancient feature built into most modern operating systems, including Windows 11, and the setting has several common uses.

Enabling airplane mode essentially cuts off all wireless connections to and from your device, which comes in handy when, as the name suggests, you’re on an airplane.

You may also need to quickly cancel your connection if you suspect someone wirelessly hacking your computer to steal your prized spaghetti sauce recipe. But that’s a less common situation.

What is Airplane Mode on laptops

Airplane mode on a laptop is a feature that disables wireless communication, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular connections.

It prevents interference with aircraft systems during flights and also conserves battery life. Activating airplane mode can be done through the system settings or by using the function keys on the keyboard.

Generally, you’ll use airplane mode when you’re on a plane, and knowing how to toggle the setting on or off swiftly is convenient. Let’s step through the process on Windows 11.

Windows 11 airplane mode – how to turn the feature on and off

The quickest and easiest way to turn airplane mode on or off is from the taskbar. Here’s how:

Accessing the Network Settings from Your Taskbar

Windows screen with arrow pointing to WIFI icon bottom right of page

Click the network icon on your taskbar, which will show a WiFi symbol when connected wirelessly

Toggling Airplane Mode On or Off

That’s it. However, if your network icon is missing from the taskbar, you’ll need to try another method. But don’t stress—we’ve got you covered.

How to disable airplane mode

Eventually you’re going to want to turn it off eventually. If you need to disable Windows 1, switch airplane mode off from the Settings app. Here’s how:

Sometimes, taskbar icons aren’t where they’re meant to be, but you can still locate the most important settings elsewhere. To turn airplane mode on or off from the Windows 11 Settings app, follow these steps:

Within the Network & Internet panel, you’ll also find additional settings and useful information about your connection, such as data usage and other statistics.

Airplane mode is easy to engage

Developers understand that you may need to access airplane mode swiftly, so they rarely bury the setting too deeply in the operating system.

Now that you know how to effortlessly put your Windows 11 machine into airplane mode, you can keep those pesky flight attendants happy while hopefully saving a bit of battery.

How much is the cheapest Tesla? https://knowtechie.com/how-much-is-the-cheapest-tesla/ https://knowtechie.com/how-much-is-the-cheapest-tesla/#respond Fri, 18 Aug 2023 00:37:09 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=267480 The Model 3 launched in 2019 for $35,000. What is the price today?

The post How much is the cheapest Tesla? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: The Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) is the cheapest Tesla, costing $40,240. Adding extras, such as enhanced autopilot and self-driving capability, increases the price tag.

In 2019, Tesla launched the $35,000 entry-level Model 3, but the impressive price point was never destined to last.

You may have already heard people saying, “Back in my day, you could get a Model 3 for a clean $35,000.”

Unfortunately, those days are well behind us and unlikely to return.

If you missed out on the previously super-low price tag, don’t stress. The cost of everything is always in flux, and even today’s price will seem mythical in a decade or so.

Allegedly, you could once walk into a shop with $3.50 in your pocket and leave with a loaf of bread, a carton of milk, a roast dinner, a bottle of whiskey, and a new hat without committing a single crime.

Ah, the economy—what a mysterious and untamed beast you are. With that in mind, let’s try to nail down the current price of the cheapest Tesla before it changes again.

How much is the cheapest Tesla?

Short answer: $40,240

Currently, the cheapest Tesla—Model 3 RWD—costs $40,240 USD brand new. You may, of course, find a lower price if you’re willing to buy secondhand.

The current price point is a big leap up from the $35,000 entry-level cost of just a couple of years ago.

The application displays a graphical user interface with text.
Image: KnowTechie

However, the price hike isn’t surprising when you consider inflation and the supply line issues of the past few years.

The Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive used to be an appealing choice for buyers, thanks to a $7,500 federal tax credit.

Previously, IRS guidance had reduced the $7,500 credit for the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive to $3,750 as of April 18th. This significant reduction disappointed many potential buyers.

On January 1, 2023, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 qualified certain electric vehicles (EVs) for a tax credit of up to $7,500. Unfortunately, this did not apply to the Model 3, as the company states on its website.

Fortunately, the $7,500 tax credit is now available again. All trims of the 2022-2023 Model 3 qualify for federal tax credits up to the full $7,500. The Model Y also qualifies for tax credits up to $7,500.

EligibilityIndividuals and businesses buying a new, qualified plug-in EV or fuel cell electric vehicle (FCV) for personal use (not resale), primarily used in the U.S.

What does the cheapest Tesla include?

Short answer: Standard driveaway features (excludes some cosmetic options and autopilot/self-driving capabilities)

While the entry-level Model 3 has an attractive price point, you should ensure you’re getting all the features you need and the sweet extras you want—nay, deserve.

The Tesla Model 3 RWD comes with a range of standard features:

  • 272 mile range
  • 140 MPH top speed
  • 0-60 MPH in 5.8 seconds
  • All-season tires
  • All-black interior
  • Choice of pearl white or midnight silver exterior paint

When designing your vehicle, you can select any extras you want to add, including 19” sport wheels, enhanced autopilot, and full self-driving capability.

A fully upgraded Tesla Model 3 RWD costs $69,240, a fair stretch from the entry-level price. Keep in mind, this is with all the bells and whistles, including Full-Self Driving. That’s an extra $15K. If you can do without it, well, that cuts down costs considerably.

Eventually, however, you won’t be able to get an electric vehicle—or a loaf of bread, for that matter—for under $100,000, and today’s price tag will feel like a steal.

Can I delete multiple iPhone contacts quickly? It’s super easy! https://knowtechie.com/delete-multiple-iphone-contacts-quickly/ https://knowtechie.com/delete-multiple-iphone-contacts-quickly/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:39:51 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=302606 You can quickly trim your iPhone contacts list -- here's how.

The post Can I delete multiple iPhone contacts quickly? It’s super easy! appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: There are multiple ways to delete multiple iPhone contacts in a single sitting. You can easily do it via Contacts or iCloud. You also can just delete all of your contacts by removing the sync to your account.

Is your iPhone contact list full of people you don’t know, don’t remember, or don’t talk to anymore? Are you ready to clean out the clutter? Are you in a deleting sort of mood?

If so, you probably don’t want to go through the tedious process of deleting unwanted contacts one by one. We know you’ve got better things to do, right?

So, what’s the solution?

Although Apple doesn’t make it obvious, you can delete multiple contacts in one hit. All it takes is a bit of tapping and a modest amount of dragging.

If you’re up to the task, we’ll guide you every step of the way to get the job done. Let’s discuss how to delete multiple iPhone contacts all at once.

How to delete multiple iPhone contacts

If you want to delete multiple iPhone contacts, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Launch the Contacts app or select Contacts in the Phone app.
ios contacts app icon

  1. Locate the batch of contacts you want to delete.
  1. Using two fingers, press one of the contacts you want to delete and drag up or down to select multiple entries. Selected contacts will be highlighted.

  1. Once you’ve selected the contacts you want to delete, release your fingers and long-press one of the highlighted entries.
  1. Tap Delete X Contacts in the pop-up menu to remove those contacts.
A smartphone is actively displaying a screenshot of text messages on its multimedia interface, enabling portable communication through its telephony and cellular network capabilities.

The drag-and-select method relies on the entries you want to delete being grouped together.

Realistically, unless you want to delete everything, the contacts you do want to remove are likely scattered all throughout the list, which can make the deletion process a little tedious. But it doesn’t have to be.

If you’re using iCloud for your contacts and don’t want to deal with the tedium of deleting them using your iPhone, we have a solution.

Delete multiple iPhone contacts via iCloud

icloud logo with blurred background
Image: KnowTechie

If you’re storing your contacts in iCloud, you can delete multiple entries via iCloud.com on your computer.

When you use this method, you can select multiple items, no matter where they sit on the list, and banish them from existence.

When you sync contacts with iCloud, any changes you make via the website reflect on your iPhone, which is exactly what we want. Of course, you should only remove entries you’re happy never to lay eyes on again.

How to delete multiple iPhone contacts via iCloud

Say goodbye to cluttered contact lists on your iPhone with this simple step-by-step guide on deleting multiple contacts via iCloud. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Log in

iCloud sign in screen on Mac computer.

Go to iCloud.com on a computer and sign in.

  2. Make your way to the Contacts app

The image shows a list of various applications on iCloud.com

Click the App button and select Contacts.

  3. Alright, who’s getting the axe?

The image shows the user creating a group of contacts in iCloud by selecting multiple contacts from a list. Full Text: iCloud Contacts 5 Contacts Mudassary ? All Contacts A F W Y Z + Anjashah Create Group

Hold either Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) and click all the contacts you want to delete. Selected contacts will be highlighted.

  4. Delete, delete, delete

The image is prompting the user to confirm if they want to delete the selected contacts.

Click the Settings icon, select Delete, and confirm when prompted.

Delete all iPhone contacts

If, for whatever reason, you would prefer to go nuclear on your contacts and remove all of them from your iPhone, there may be a simple solution.

However, for the nuclear option to work, your contacts need to be syncing with an account of some type, such as iCloud.

Following these steps will remove all synced contacts from your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings ContactsAccounts
  2. Select the account you’re syncing your contacts with
  3. Toggle off Contacts
  4. Tap Delete from My iPhone when prompted

Once you’ve switched contacts off, all synced contacts from that account will be removed from your phone. You can, however, summon them back to your device at any time by toggling Contacts back on, as they are still stored in the cloud.

Risks of deleting iPhone contacts

If you’re ready to go on a deleting spree, at least one of the methods mentioned should get the job done.

Removing big batches of contacts can be fun, therapeutic even. However, when you do go on a deleting spree, you open yourself up to now unknown numbers calling and messaging you, not knowing you’ve removed them from your life.

Perhaps Apple should add a deletion alert feature that notifies people when they’ve been removed from someone’s iPhone. Honestly, though, it would probably cause my problems than it solves.

With the launch of Google’s Pixel 7, we received an interesting new feature: cough and snore detection. You may be asking, “Why would I want my phone to detect coughing and snoring?”

Good question…

If you’re feeling inexplicably tired most mornings, even after a seemingly good night’s rest, something may be disrupting your sleep. It may not even be something you’re consciously aware of, like your own coughing and snoring, for example.

Thankfully, modern Pixel smartphones can assist with the investigation.

Are you unsure if you’ve been coughing or snoring at night? When it comes to solving any problem, gaining awareness is the first step.

Let’s discuss how to enable cough and snore detection on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
